The Big C! RIP Kim, see pg. 218

Now that’s funny… I just have this mental picture now.

Strawberry shortcake - no. Avocado - no. Artichokes - no. Guess I’m not a true Californian since I like none of those things. Cherries and raspberries - YES! And of course - BACON - the king of food.

Bacon is your Chocolate right Shiloh?? :)

Shiloh’s not the only one. We’re fairly regularly asked to volunteer for one thing or another at work. First question one of my peers asks is, “will there be bacon?” No? Sorry, he’s busy elsewhere. We volunteered to help with Commencement. Yes, there’s bacon for the volunteers before we start our duties. Guy wants to know if he can put a plastic bag of bacon under his robe and eat it during the ceremony. Sure.

Kim, my tomatoes here on the Jersey Shore are just starting to ripen. We’ve had two crops so far of the sweetest yellow cherry tomatoes (Sun Sugar Hybrid). Have a ton of green SuperSteaks that are just starting to turn. My Heirlooms are taking longer. Wish I could figure out a way to pack some for you when they’re ready. Maybe an insulated box and some cold packs… need to put on the thinking cap…

Was it that obvious? I would rather have bacon than chocolate.

Okay I have no idea what any of that is! LOL Must be above the bridge stuff!!!
Well This morning it has cooled off. I was hoping for rain, but it is lovely and 60 degrees out with a breeze and not humid.
Last night the lake folk across the street had their one last hurrah. Set off the real big ones. I could actually see a few.
They quit that again at 11:30 So I hope that is it for this year.
Seems everyone around here, surprising as it is, followed the rules.
Feeling pretty good. this morning have 2 houses to post, and then I am going to mow and weed wack the back area.
OH!!! guess what I discovered. Now so you understand, My immediate back yard is completely fenced. Then I have another area beyond that butting up to the woods that is fenced also. It was the totally wild area that took me the better part of 3 years to partially clear. one half is cleared one have is well, pretty wild.
I was going outside the other night, and saw a BIG hairy brown thing dash back in the wild area.
WOODCHUCK! And man does he have a huge hole excavated underneath some autumn olive bushes.
I did not look further for his other hole. as long as he stays out of trouble, he is safe. But he is a big un.
I am just glad he took the hint and never tried to dig out under the pole barn.
Well wish me luck on the tomato hunt. It can’t be long now!!

Tomatoes just can’t help it.
No matter how hard they are trying not to ripen so you won’t have your perfect BLT, there is a time where nature will take it’s course and they just have to go there.

That time is just about now, good luck in your hunt.

Can I add to the avocado love? I just discovered Marie’s Avocado Poblano Dressing. OMG. Just the right creamyness/ hotness - like a cool warmth added to salad. Love it drizzled over tomatoes, cukes, a bit of feta.

Get an insulated shipping box and ice packs. For tomatoes I would put some ice packs on the bottom, cover with a few layers of newspaper. Get some cardboard and make individual compartments for packing the tomatoes. Cut a square out of cardboard and fit snugly over top of the tomatoes in the compartments. Add more cold packs. Fill the box with crumpled newspaper to the top. Ship via FedEx standard overnight shipping. Pack so that the tomatoes are snug in their little compartments. They should arrive in good shape.

Bubble wrap would cushion them but the individual compartments are important so they don’t wind up squished. I wonder if you were to send tomatoes at various stages of ripening if Kim could have some right away and spread them out over several days that way.

I don’t even like tomatoes but I’m just over the bridge in DE and everyone speaks very highly of Jersey tomatoes.

Everytime you go out back to the area where you spotted “Charlie”(you have to name him Charlie!),you must immediately start chanting in a sing-song voice…

How much wood could a woodchuck chuck
If a woodchuck could chuck wood?
As much wood as a woodchuck could chuck,
If a woodchuck could chuck wood.

That way he will behave himself and stays out of trouble.

Tomorrow morning will be my farmers market trip. I’m hoping to find tomatoes. But I’m really hanging on for sweet corn. Two of my cousins grow sweet corn so I get all I can eat for free.

I KNOW!!! None yet! :frowning:

Well I mowed back there this afternoon, Not a sign of him. I am sure he is holed up in his condo.
But like I said, nothing to eat, and as long as he does not go in the back yard where my flowers are, he is safe.
Then there will be hell to pay since I only have my flowers. LOL
Charlie it is!
