The "Bring Chrome Home" crowd is batty, but...

… he does look like hell in this picture.

I know it’s a bad photo and there have been a lot of better ones. But honestly, to me, he just doesn’t look like he’s doing well recently.

I do not think that this is because he’s in England. I do not think that he’s “sad” because he’s not in the States getting mobbed. I don’t know why he looks like hell, but IMO, he does.

Thoughts?

Eh… he looks racing fit to me, this looks more like horrible timing after a workout…

OMG, I just read that FB page. What the hell…

That very well may be it. I do have a friend who used to be very involved in the European racing industry, and she was pretty disturbed by this (she mentioned his loin and neck as concern areas). Not sure if it truly is just an exceptionally awful photo.

Honestly, can’t judge much in that picture. It’s an awkward moment and he just worked, so he has weird sweat patches and looks rough.

I dunno, other photos I’ve seen of him recently I thought he looked pretty good, or much improved over his condition when he first arrived there.

Also looks like he may have recently been body clipped. While I never have been very fond of the Euro grooms, very few chestnuts look dazzling a few weeks post clip.

A little OT but, reading the crazy stuff people write on his FB and the Bring Chrome Home page has decreased my productivity significantly, it wold be very funny if they were not dead serious. These people are crazy and don’t know anything about horses. So weird!

They are very anti-AP, because Chrome couldn’t do it so they don’t want AP to either.

He looks sweaty and like he hasn’t been bathed yet. In his work pictures under tack he looks ripped and fit. Racehorses are supposed to be a little ribby anyway (look at some shots of AP unloading in New York-it’s show and riding horses who are the wrong weight and too fat) and the hind end just looks strange because it’s a badly lit photo where the sun’s throwing weird shadows on him and he’s stepping forward with his right hind foot, crossing a little to the inside and making his hip look weird. I have photos of my own horses taken in sequence where it can look like a totally different animal one frame to the next just because of how the horse is turned to camera or what he’s doing.

there are some lovely photos of him at newmarket on their facebook page. I think he looks better than he did here. Much happier

The angle of the sun is not helping, and this appears to be a cell phone quality phone (grainy and poor) which I think contributes to making his coat look dull. A photo from this exact same moment, at a different angle, and taken by a skilled photographer using different equipment would probably tell a whole other story.

It just occurred to me that they should be happy about his being in “no drug land” rather than getting his regular bute, Lasix, and what ever drugs he is on here in the states. In other words, he’s getting to dry out and bask in the English sunshine. In all the other pictures he looks fabulous, so I’d attribute that particular one to a bad angle and bad photo.

He looks totally fine to me. Sweaty after a workout and funny lighting with the sun. He really is just fine! It probably is a bad decision as far as his career - he has very little chance of winning - but the horse is in good hands and is having a nice little diversion from the daily grind at Los Alamitos.

He looks tired and possibly a little dehydrated, which would make sense, but he isn’t like “other” horses so what do I know…

Same day ? After workout.

Wow thanks for that FB link. I have not seen that much crazy in one place possibly ever. Can’t wait to look at it in depth later!

The Shermans should keep their mouths shut.

No kidding. If I was the controlling owner, I’d be shipping him to a different trainer when I shipped him back to the States. They just sound like sour grapes.

No kidding. And I like what Dettori’s saying about him (if anyone knows how the courses ride over there…) It’s a SPORT and Martin wants to go where most Americans don’t go. (And if he runs well off Lasix, well…heck, he already did, not allowed in Dubai either and second in the World Cup is nothing to sneeze at after a short ship-in.)

He looked like he just got body clipped. The Shermans need to just stop talking. It does them no good. Really unfortunate how they are acting about the whole thing and undermining the controlling owner

I, for one, am very excited to see someone take a good horse to Europe. The best racing in the world is there, No drugs and girls run against the boys all the time… Love it.
I hope he has a good trip. A good horse does not normally win every race but if he hits the board most of the time that is good enough for me. How many horses are undefeated throughout a good career. If he does well I would love to see him in France also…
Sherman should be excited to be there, not many American trainers have that opportunity.
