I’m wondering how/if the TC win by Pharoah will affect this bunch of nutjobs. Now that there is an actual TC horse, not as much spotlight on Chrome. (One can only hope).

I’m waiting for an AP vs CC showdown at the Breeders Cup …[/QUOTE]
Where is Walter Farley when you need him? The California horse versus the Eastern triple crown winner! Alex, can you ride CC to a victory?!
Unfortunately, the crazies are already trying to discount Pharoah’s win with all kinds of bizarre theories (including one who said that NYRA and the other jockeys “let” him win). To me, this shows that they do not really love the sport. Anyone who says AP is better is called a “hater.”
I heard Victor this morning on ESPN saying that Pharoah is indeed the best horse he has ever ridden. Wait until they hear that.
I do not dislike Chrome or any horse (although I think he is “good” rather than “great”), but these nuts really make it difficult to root for the team.
That is just … so strange.
So wait, all I need to do is start a facebook group and people will join to tell me how great my not sound retired old horse who does not have any impressive records at all is? Or does he have to start out as something almost really great to have such a crazy following?
In other words, these Chrome followers seem a little weird.
I saw a post this morning that AP should just be retired since he’s reached his peak or something to that effect.
I suggested that person donate about $300K to keep him in the manner he’s become accustomed to for the next 25 years of his life.
It’s nice all these people are interested in horses all of sudden. I just wish they weren’t so dumb.

Well, AP could probably bring in ten times $300,000 just on breeding, so they wouldn’t need to chip in for that (and any of them who thinks that’s ‘sex slavery’ has clearly never had to deal with even a gelding who’s failed to notice his missing parts around a mare who’s in season. If it’s slavery they’d clearly like to be sold into it!)

Didn’t we already see that in the Seabiscuit movie?

I actually got into it with a friend, a male friend no less, on Facebook about the supposed “cruelty” that thoroughbred stallions endure.
I was like, “are you kidding me???”
I don’t even understand how you can warp the life of a prominent thoroughbred stallion into some cruel existence, but folks always manage to see what they want to believe!

Hey now, American Pharoah is a California horse! Based in California, did all his two-year-old racing in California, prepped for the Derby “out west” (yeah, to east coast racing Arkansas is out west!). So it’s more like clash of the Californians! The east coast does not get to claim Pharoah just because he showed them who’s boss!
Well, they can just buy out the 70% owner or show some class and shut up, Sound like a 12 year old whining. Thank heavens they didn’t win the TC, imagine the drivel they woukd have had us listening to.
Can you imagine though? People would be FURIOUS if Art Sherman were deprived of California Chrome. That is the horse that truly rewarded all of his hard work. Personally I agree with you, because clearly he’s happy and going well. Is he going to win at Ascot? Highly unlikely. Is he going to completely humiliate himself? Probably not. He’s clearly well-cared for and in the best of hands. That being said though, the owners are already being roasted. Getting rid of the Shermans would be going from the frying pan into the fire.
Although…it’s not like the Coburns & the Martins particularly care about being roasted, as we know.
Nobody owes it to the Shermans to keep the horse with them. Owners switch up trainers all the time. I personally think it’s highly unprofessional for the trainers to be publically criticizing the owners. If it were my horse, that would be enough to convince me to take him to someone else.

Totally agree. Like I said, I 100% agree with you. But I can bet there would be some outrage if they did switch. “How could you take that horse away from Art Sherman, bla bla bla”. It is completely unprofessional of them to criticize the owners - they can think it, but they should keep it to themselves. The owners can listen to advice, or choose to do their own thing. That is the tough side to being a trainer. But some people (like the California Crazies over here) think he is due the horse no matter what, because the horse is his vindication (really?)…and he is so clearly the only person who cares about the horse, dammit! I think a lot of less-informed people would choose to ignore the Shermans’ scrutiny of the owners and say Art deserves the horse because of reasons. “He’s worked so long as a horseman without any recognition!” Join the club, there’s a million guys out there with the same credentials.
Will Rae Guest be the trainer listed for Chrome’s race at Ascot? Or the Shermans?
I know Rae has been in charge of Chrome since he arrived in England, but I think the younger Sherman is over there now (and has been over there for a little while).
From the ‘Bring Chrome Home’ dopes:
“CALIFORNIA CHROME
AMERICAS MOST LOVED HORSE
Photos are all from Chrome year 2014 - Spring 2015. The pics show Chrome with his family & best friends. But you wont see any pics of Chrome with Co- Owner Perry Martin, not because I left them out, but because there are none”
Apparently, the person who runs that page isn’t very good at finding pictures because I found a couple with Martin, Coburn and the horse. Plus I’m sure its all part of the whole “cold-hearted jerk owner” image they’re trying to push.
So, the Coburns are in England and just posted a video of them reuniting with CC. He looked way more interested in grazing and his body language when Steve was hugging him showed lack of interest. but the crazies are gushing over it like it were a Hallmark moment.
I wouldn’t say disinterested-check the pictures when they broke out the Mrs Pastures’ cookies! Chrome knows what he wants in a care package from home! Yep, what cold-hearted jerks, BCH Crowd…do they really think every racing owner lives in the barn with Horsie? Coburns have TONS of pictures, and I’d guess a big reason there aren’t a lot with Martin is he’s always been the publicity-shy partner and isn’t big into plastering his selfies all over the internet. Since the mental age of the Bring Home crowd appears to average at “thirteen-year-old girl who thinks the Saddle Club was a docudrama” that is probably a foreign concept…
And I don’t know many horses who really like being hugged…it’s an unnatural position for a prey animal to be in and since they don’t have arms it’s not like they hug each other. Try telling the anthropomorphizing crowd that, though…
I always liked Chrome, the horse, wagered on him, kept track of him although on a more casual basis then the Chromies. Will be interested to see if he can outproduce his bloodline as well as he has outperformed them.
But I have never been able to stand his connections, posted on here last year I was in the group that thought their stable name was inappropriate and totally classless/tasteless. Now it appears it was prophetic, dumbasses…
Some of the fans too.
I dunno. Perry Martin just seems like a quiet kind of guy who values his privacy. What I read before the Derby is that in his first meeting with Art Sherman, Martin showed him a paper mapping out the horse’s path to the Derby. I think Martin knows what he’s doing.
This is a bit puzzling; https://youtu.be/z6pBWgeulwg

Neither do I. Also agree that “Bring Chrome Home” website is ridiculous. Are they dancing under the moonlight in gossamer veils yet?
However, neither am I seeing a “ripped” looking horse others have mentioned. Just the opposite in fact. He looks thin and under muscled compared to last year.
But godforbid anyone comment that his condition is anything less than superb and, perhaps, his current management may not agree with the him. I see a stressed horse with dumb ass owners who think he’s a gawd damn machine - capable of doing anything they can dream up with the flip of a switch.
More recent, another photo from England.
