The "Bring Chrome Home" crowd is batty, but...

A more recent pic (from today) in this article:

Can’t judge much from the angle, but I think he looks pretty good. His legs have gotten more muscled, looks like.

I like this one too:

I had to laugh at the comment that said something along the lines of “look how the sky is always gray and cloudy in all his pictures. It’s no wonder he’s so depressed.”
Anthropomorphize much?

No, the horse doesn’t owe anybody anything, but asking a racehorse to run a race every few months is not exactly unreasonable … And I’m quite sure they have the means to properly care for horses over in the UK.
Having lived in the UK, unless they’re having a ridiculous heatwave, it’s a pretty nice place to be a horse. Horses don’t mind so much when it’s a bit cooler and sometimes rainy (not heavy bucketing rain, but sprinkles and ‘misting’ are fairly common, nothing a good coat and a run in shed won’t handle) and I think they take it being cool a LOT better than they do lots of heat.

They call themselves “Chromies”…like “Beliebers”

“I will be so delighted if he can run well in this race,” Sherman said. "I am hoping for the best. I are sure glad Rae has taken over the training from me because it so different from the United States – a horse paradise.
“…Victor Espinoza, who has ridden California Chrome, said that we would be better off with a local rider and I am happy with William Buick.”
Added Coburn: “Buick is an American-made car and California Chrome is an American-made horse so hopefully things will work out. If this horse finishes good, then it is good for us.”
After the Prince of Wales, fellow Dumbass Partner Perry Martin has said California Chrome will return to the United States for the Arlington Million and eventually the Breeders’ Cup Classic at Keeneland.

Agreed. Tonalist is drop dead gorgeous and beautifully put together.
QUOTE: “Tonalist was drop dead gorgeous last year. This year his roach back is so pronounced it kind of grossed me out.”

Really? I think he’s beautiful and have not noticed that. CC’s front legs almost touch…that “grosses me out.”

How much do stewards make?

ETA: This wasn’t supposed to go here, but thank you for answering!

Meh about Tonalist- in lourve with Honor Code. Now that’s a horse.

I saw a post this morning that AP should just be retired since he’s reached his peak or something to that effect.

I suggested that person donate about $300K to keep him in the manner he’s become accustomed to for the next 25 years of his life.

It’s nice all these people are interested in horses all of sudden. I just wish they weren’t so dumb.
You could start a drinking game based off the number of times you read AP should be retired off of one FB posting of an article (just looking at the Breeder’s Cup article comments right now) but you’d likely be drunk before the 15th comment.

What CC is up against;
http://www.racingbetter.co.uk/royal_ascot/prince_of_wales_s_stakes.html

My favorite is the comments on the pic of him with a very slightly bloody mouth, he had apparently bitten his tongue. " OMG I do not like the looks of this AT ALL. The LOOK in his eyes…" Etc. and " OMG they are going to end up killing him!" And basically accusing everyone involved with him overseas of abuse.
They are a special kind of crazy on that page. It IS entertaining though!

Guess they don’t realize or care that Chrome is running drug-free over there.

Oh, wait–the Shermans would NEVER use drugs on their precious horsie.

Yeah, because he’s so old, having been walking the earth for about 40 months, I think  … I think he’s a Feb. foal.

Per annum. If that one person wants to take care of him for life. Real estate won’t be getting cheaper for the next 25 +/- years (or 30, 35, or … ). To keep him healthy and happy from his age onward is going to be a high-maintenance, labor-intensive project. Is he allowed to breed in return for compensation under that person’s plan, or would that be too exploitive?

Let’s be nice to them, and maybe they will learn a little.

I can’t seem to find the answer to this question anywhere (somewhere online I read an answer to the same question and it said they get in for free that day…what?).
I always thought the stewards worked for the track and sometimes change tracks when the circuit moves, like the starters and Pony riders, pretty sure they need a license, it’s not a volunteer position.

Kind of a “duh” if they get in free?

The Prince of Wales Stakes will see the winners of last year’s Kentucky Derby (CChrome), Australian Derby (Criterion) and French Derby (Grey Gatsby) line up against each other.
That’s a pretty unique occurrence.

Question:

It seems that Art and Company plus Raoul the groom, are having a nice vacation in England–visiting Frankel and probably other stud farms. From one of the articles, Art likened the gallops and stabling as “horse heaven,” and sounded impressed.

Now for the question: Who is footing the bill for all of this? Somehow I don’t think that Art and Co. and the groom are paying their own way. So is it the much maligned Mr. Martin who is providing them with their working vacation?

I do not think that Chrome will embarrass himself. He might not win but I hope that he will give a good account of himself.

As the trainer of record, Sherman isn’t really on vacation, and he and his staff are having their expenses paid.

Nice work if you can get it.

All expenses paid by the owners, including that Grinch Martin?

BTW, maybe Martin was on to something. Read that Chrome’s little sis came in a close second in her first start.

Fingers crossed for a good trip for Chrome this week. Hoping that he will surprise everyone.
