The Daily Dumb

I scratched my eye last night in my sleep and now I can’t wear my contact. Fortunately I don’t need a huge amount of correction to see well, but still. motoring around with one contact and one scratchy eye is not fun.

BO at a previous barn gave tiny kittens a “smidgeon” of ivermectin. Kittens all developed ataxia but fortunately recovered. Do not give horse de-wormer to other animals!!

Tiny kittens can have a hard time with kitten dewormer! Pretty dumb to give them horse dewormer.

(I’ve been anxiously awaiting 2 kittens whose arrival date has been held up by their feeling punky after deworming. We are picking them up tomorrow :))

Can we still give it to morons who think it will save them from COVID?

Ouch! I caught mine on the damn dog bed the other day and by did that hurt. It still hurts…and I have a hens party this weekend with a theme for the outfit and the only shoes that work are a pair of stilettos!

I sat down to write a couple checks and pay bills. Yup I am old school. Water authority $42. Dentist $91. A few days pass and dentist office called…they got the water bill check in their envelope. Oops. Gave them debit card over the phone to pay the 91. Check my bank account on line, the 91 dollar check that had to have arrived at the water authority has been cashed. Did no one notice the payee and amount didn’t match my bill? Not those who received it nor the bank? Now great I have a credit on my water bill…

This reminds me of an old Roseanne episode where they sent the bills to the wrong utility on purpose to buy time when money was tight. Too funny.

Saw an ad on FB from some teen girl who had been riding for five whole years looking for a job training horses just in case, you know, need assistance with your problem horses because she has, you know, five years of experience. :woman_facepalming: Oddly, she had no comments from people wanting her services. This was a gem from the ad (paraphrasing) looking to be an exerexerciser rider.

The move is complete.

But. My young mare is DEFINITELY the daily dumb. She has touched the electric tape no less than 10 times and is now alternating between walking in circles giving the fencing the side eye, and standing in the middle looking betrayed. Lady, this is not hard. Don’t touch the fence.

The Old Man is being a perfect gentleman, as usual.

So glad you have left the Crazy Barn and the resident Crazies- there will probably be Crazies in your new place, but at least they will be different!

Congrats, @endlessclimb!!! I will be bummed no longer reading your reports of the regular characters at the old barn, lol, but so glad you were able to move!

Walked the young mare all over the property, let her touch all the XC jumps, lunged her a bit and lunged her over her first ditch. Other than some calling (which I don’t allow when a rope is on), she was much improved. I only saw her touch the fence once (sloooooowwww learner).

Rode the Old Man around, didn’t bother to show him anything first. He was perfect. Love him - he offers me sanity in the “sea of 5 year old BS” haha.

I continue to enforce the rules on the young mare, and today it finally clicked with her. Same rules, new location - check check got it mom. Finally felt ok putting her in the cross ties, and got a nice short ride in with her. She was wonderful.

She continues to touch the electric fence multiple times a day. She has all her whiskers, I don’t bother to shave them anymore. I do trim the obnoxious ones to 2.5" or so, and trim the ones around her eyes so the fly mask doesn’t hit them. Not sure what’s taking her so long on the uptake here.

The Old Man is already notably sounder - I think it’s the increased turnout making his arthritis feel better.

Mares don’t follow “rules” until they’re good and ready!

Silly Owner!
She’s testing for that One Day there won’t be a shock & then FREEDOM!

DH’s TWH used to tease my TB (both geldings) when we rode in an outdoor that was fenced with the same coated tensile as the turnouts.
Difference was the arena was not hot, like turnouts.
Walker would grab the top line, TB would freak out "don’t touch that!, Walker would then ping the line in his mouth, causing TB to back away rapidly… With me aboard

& Today, I am the Dumb :expressionless:
Talking to Faux Grandson last night, he’s telling me about friends who trekked over an hour away to a County Fair in a neighboring state for a show that defines Rinkydink, in the hot & humid, to do 2 classes.
Yes, payback is generous: $50 for 1st, down to $30 for 5th. Not paid out at the show, mailed later.
One maroon took a 1st in a class of 2, 2nd in a class of 3. Other idjit got the 3rd in the 3, 2nd in the 2.
But the diesel burned RT certainly ate their winnings up.

FG has gone to this show since his family lived there & it was a Much Bigger Deal.
He knows Show Mgr & Judge - both doing these jobs for years.
When he brings his pony & minis he cleans up, usually Grand Champion along with 1st or 2nd in all classes.
Deservedly so, it’s a very nice pony & minis, he has shown since he was a kid & does a great job presenting his horses.
But the “competition” is nothing. Kids showing horses that haven’t been groomed, driving in tshirts… Basically backyard with zero respect for the judge.
When he told me about yesterday’s success, I opined that it was nothing to be thrilled about.
2dogs inserts :foot: in :lips: by saying a win at this Fair is nothing to brag on & suggesting he show at better/rated venues.
FWIW: he did drive another friend’s pony at Villa Louis Carriage Classic one year & took 4th in a large class.
So, he’s got the chops, but is happier being the Big Fish in teeny ponds.
I probably insulted him :persevere:

My guess is that she’s testing the fence. I’ve seen a pony do this, then let the big horses know if the power wasn’t on so that they could knock the fence down and everybody could get into the yard to graze (this was at my riding instructor’s place when I was a kid).

Apparently, touching a whisker doesn’t really hurt (think of a long-haired dog going through an electric fence), but the horse can feel the charge.

I’m the daily dumb, not horse related.

I feed my dog Purina Pro Plan Weight Management, the regular formula. About a week and a half ago I ran out of food (I’m normally way ahead of the game on this, but I slipped up this time). I went to Petsmart to get more, and they only had the “shredded” version, same %s, same “weight management” formula though. Same, same, I thought, bought it and out the door I went.

My dog has been itching for about a week, shedding more than usual, starting to look a little patchy…

I finally looked at the ingredients. The “shredded” version has soy as a top ingredient, while the “regular” version did not. Dammit, dammit, dammit. I didn’t know she had a sensitivity before, but I do now!!

I’m going to have to dig to find the old stuff STAT, already have a bag on order from Chewy. I don’t care if it’s the overpriced 6# bag, I am switching her back TONIGHT and the “shredded” stuff is going in the trash. I’m sorry Zipperoo. :frowning: Bad dog mom moment.

You might donate the bad bag to the Humane Society or a rescue, instead of throwing it away. They can always use food. I did that with my old dogs’s left over bag after he died. Also a half of a large bag of cat food. Cats ate it fine, then totally refused to eat it. Same brand they ate and liked for a long time! The local HS was glad to get the food. They also took clean pet dishes, extra pet beds (washed and clean) the puppies outgrew.j

It’s not in a bag though - it’s in one of my vault containers to keep pests out of it.

I could maybe transfer it to an old horse feed bag though - I’ll call the local shelter and ask if that would be ok. Good idea!
