That was a lovely ode to Jane. Gallop on, little one.

Thank you. I knew it was banned some places, but didn’t know there was a penalty…how does one get caught?

Thanks everyone - it has been a rough few months around here with an aging herd and a couple who have always had chronic issues and battle them. I keep thinking that I am too old for this sh*t now and yet another foaling season… but here I am!

Old Janie was very good with the youngsters - who towered above her but respected her. When she marched across the paddock with determination, the weanlings would part like the Red Sea and almost bow as if they were in the opening number of The Lion King.

Janie sounds like she was awesome. Seems like she had an easy passing, which is a blessing. So sorry for your loss.

I, too, am sorry about sweet Janie, but am also glad she just went to sleep.

That is a beautiful image, and I’ll bet the scene was repeated on The Other Side.

There are tests but they have to be tested a certain period of time afterwards, I think it’s like 90 days.

If Osphos is the same as Bisphosphonates, there’s a total ban on its use on racehorses or prospective racehorses (sales yearlings, for example) under the age of four. Sales companies test for it upon request (for a fee). I’m sure racetracks test for it too (but I’m too lazy to look up the particulars.) The testing is able to detect its use for three years after administration.

Gosh, thank you very much! I didn’t know that.

Is it permissible for horses over the age of four?

I think it is admissible for horses four and up if they have a documented diagnosis of navicular syndrome but not otherwise

Sorry for your loss. Big hugs.

I’m surprised by the number of vets in my area who arbitrarily use it on NQR horses.

Happens here, too. Isn’t there some evidence that, in adult horses, it helps NQR stuff?

This is not good.

WARNING, that link includes a picture. Not gruesome, not catastrophic injury related but a suffering animal.
