Meh. My dog has never had an issue…she routinely brings home deer legs to gnaw on for a few days.
The best was when she and my old foster dog found one. They worked on that thing for AGES. It got to the point that it was basically just a couple of bones held together by some tenacious tendons. Terribly unpleasant for the humans, but a prized possession of the dogs. And they got no greater delight than to come bounding up to the girliest of our boarders, gleefully swinging the leg about. Those two had a wicked sense of humor

There was no vomit. Usually, that only happens if she got into the guts. There was a fair amount of gas.
She was so proud of herself as she cantered out of the woods with her prize! Once she was done with the primary chewing, the other two got a crack at it. Last year, deer legs actually saved me from having to do a dental on the ACD.

used to hunt and maybe still do, but occasionally they will throw the odd deer leg over the fence. While I am horrified, [all meat comes from the store…]:uhoh: the dogs LOVE it. As long as it doesn’t come into MY house, they can knaw away. [gracious, I know that is’nt spelled right, but I know it will be corrected.]
As long as it isn’t human, it is all good. Let it be Thanksgiving for the dogs!
As soon as I leave here, soon, mine will have to be penned.
SO has a butcher shop for the local hunters to bring deer. He regularly gives the ribs, etc after butchering to a friend for his dogs. They gnaw on those raw bones for hours. And since friend is a DVM, must be fine.
Having had a dog who fed herself rabbits regularly & goat legs she’d find god-only-knows-where, I can imagine she had quite a grin on her face!

We were boating and decided to stop. We had not even completely tied up the boat that our dog came back proudly with this!

Actually, he dropped it on his own when my husband started the boat motor!! lol
At least, this dog is not aggressive when food is concerned. It would have been a game for him to try and take it from him… I had another incident on a Dec. 31 when he found a leg and it was “catch me if you can” until I finally opened the back of the car and started it. He jumped in with the leg, but I took it from him and threw it back out.
Stella and I have talked about the “No deer legs in the office” rule. She doesn’t agree with me one bit, but, you know, I don’t have many rules for her…she’s a farm dog after all, but I think keeping limbs out of the office (or house) is a fair rule.
My hound/BC mix LOVES when he finds legs still attached by the pelvis. He grabs one leg and has 6 feet of bloody bones trailing behind him. He holds his head up high and prances along with his tail wagging like crazy. As long as it’s not week old skunk carcass, we let him keep it. :lol:

Also, this week we’ve moved past limbs to skulls.
It has been like a big game of keep away around here all week. Stella found it, so she has first dibs on it and isn’t afraid to tell anyone that fact. But, every now and then, one of the dumb boys will be carrying it around when she’s busy doing other important Stella things.
I went into the main house the other night at night check to let the senile BC out to pee one last time…and I kicked it across the patio in the dark. :dead:
