Carpathia
I believe he had a warmblood mare for a short time when he was much younger, and it was chestnut. As I recall, she was sired by Roemer and didnāt stay sound due to (allegedly?) stepping on a nail.
I almost hope I am wrong on those details, because if not, it would mean I actually dedicated some brain cells to details from that dreadful book.
Iād be surprised if he owned a WB. Not because I donāt think he could - just gauging by his weird mentality about them. He seems to think they are magical beings that churn out perfect dressage and are effortless to ride. That if you ride them you cheat your way through competition. I would not be surprised if Chevy and Carpathia were the only horses he has owned.
Your post gave me a mental picture of Maestro climbing aboard a random warmblood, then proceeding to just sit there wondering when the spontaneous dressage magic would start.
@Paint_Party It was Carpathia I was thinking of & IIRC (unlikely ) she was leased or āin trainingā.
Maybe @J-Lu would remember⦠or anyone else fortunate enough to have read the book. But I seem to remember that before Chevy, NP bought a mare by Roemer from an uncertain dam line. Roemer was his favorite stallion from Metal Pond Farm ( ). NP boarded her at some place that, of course, wasnāt up to his standards. She didnāt stay sound and he sold her.
What was his pseudonym for Roemer in the book? Inquiring minds gotta know!
Or wondering where to put the quarter . . .
Thatās right. He had a photo of the nail that did the deed. He was blaming the barn owner/BOās spouse as I recall, for leaving the nail lying around while repairing/building fence.
In the photo, it looked like a VERY OLD nail, not from a recent project.
Sadly, random nails happen.
Thanks! Of all the details my aging mind manages to hang on to, it figures it would be some tidbit from the Maestroās tome of torture.
Canāt remember exactly. But I think it was something way off base, as in NP thought Roemer meant someone who wanders around (roamer), not a proper name from history. But I could be wrong.
My brain is saying Traveller, but Iām not sure if Iām just making up my own Nick-isms at this point.
I may have blocked this from my mind, but I do recall at some point he said he had a mare by Wanderer-or-something who became unsound due to someone elseās neglect.
Hmmmmm, still waiting for the tome to arrive! I hope it comes before all of my expected medals!
When your copy of the book comes back 'round you can answer all the NP trivia questions! That dubious duty could be worthy of its own medal.
The mare was Castana, by āWalk Aroundā
Ah, so Walk Around it is! Again, I just have to point out that Maestro chose a pseudonym for Roemer that revealed a gross misinterpretation of the meaning of that stallionās name. Thatās why I laughed so hard while reading the book, and the anecdote stuck in my mind.
Did he think the word āroamerā was actually spelled that way?
If he was unsure, why didnāt he just Google āRoemerā?
(Yeah, I know Iām nitpicking when there are oh so many Bigger Things wrong with that insipid book, but this one particular silliness with a great horseās name just sticks with me).
Well, now that Iāve read that review, Iām convinced of everything he wrote. You guys are just a bunch of crazy old meanies.
He really needs to change up his verbiage when heās pretending to be someone else.
That review is as transparent as the Emperor With No Clothes On!
Secret Facebook page? How come I donāt know about it? Waaaaah!
