The Maestro has written another book

If you meant me when you said “you”, I don’t need to re read the threads. I remember them well. I participated in them. He was unforgettably creepy towards people here IRL. Difficult to forget. :slightly_smiling_face:

It’s entirely possible that I’m wrong and please correct me if I am. It would seem that by copying and using screenshots of posts written by others, in this book that is meant FOR PROFIT, he is breaking copyright law. The FOR PROFIT part seems to be the deciding factor from what I can gather.

Well, how do we know he hasn’t doctored them to serve his purpose?

I’m not so sure about posters copyright but would imagine the copyright of the site the posts are on is violated.

My knowledge of copyright issues begins and ends with other authors misappropriating text from magazine articles. But I think that when any of us post comments on a forum we are giving the forum owner/operator/host permission to display our comments in perpetuity. However, the actual comments we compose are our own intellectual property. Does that make sense?

Of course, I could be completely wrong, especially since we’re posting under aliases.

An alias would be much the same as a nom de plume, right?

Hmmm… Interesting thought.

On the other hand, journalists quote snippets off of Twitter, for example, all the time without the commenters’ express permission. So by posting on an Internet forum or social media platform you (g) may be waiving your rights to control over your “intellectual property.”

SEE HOW CONFUSING IT IS?

@Unfforgettable The little icon photo of your Arabian is gorgeous!

The book needs to find its way to archive.org for posterity.

If anyone would be happy to post to Australia… I will pay the postage.

please add me to the chain list

I don’t think any of us posting here have any intellectual property rights to our posts.

But that person lives and practices in California. I wonder if she knows she’s written the forward to his book.

Kind of telling that a Psychotherapist wrote the foreword. Guess he couldn’t find anyone in the horse world to do it.

I wonder who is credited with the cover photo. I hope that photo hasn’t been used without permission.

And then she retired.

Someone else mentioned that, too. She is a horse person, that’s all I know about her.

I find his choice of title curious because wasn’t he mostly above the bit?

Generally, I’d agree…however, in using other’s words in a book to make a profit that may be a bit of a grey area. I’ll ask my editor and see if he has any input on that.
