The Maestro has written another book

Well, that comment about “using his back like a clutch” is lifted directly from this article:

Just got back from practicing pirouettes on my Toro lawnmower. I see those facebook posts where Nick is making grandiose claims about his riding capabilities and seems to believe his riding position mirrors that of Nuno.

And I have to ask…

Has Nick been pulling one over on us the whole time? Has this all been a joke? Is he just trolling us?

Because sure as I’m sitting here in my chiffon bathrobe and feather boa, those are some wildly ridiculous claims he’s making there.

I thought Americans didn’t drive stick shift  All I can say about the photos is that it looks like Nick’s clutch cable broke

@Old_Mac_Donald thanks for that link! It filled in a lot of gaps for me in the Nuno story.

I wonder what Ms. Drummond would have to say about Nick’s book and his riding.

I can drive a stick shift of any kind :slightly_smiling_face:.

She hates wannabes. Despises people who try to suck up to her. Literally ignores people who say something stupid. I went up to her once when she came to the farm to give my trainer a lesson. She was sitting on the mounting block waiting for my trainer at the time to come into the arena with her horse. I started to say how much I admired her and she interrupted me to ask if my horse wasn’t waiting to see me and shouldn’t I go see him.

She would shred him in three words. And then she wouldn’t waste another second on him.

I’m wondering…where are all the pics of book purchasers holding their tee shirts? I’d think he’d be posting those.

I guess the really good thing is he’s out of horses. He’s moved on to other things and I think the only reason he keeps up with this is because of the attention he gets. He can’t damage any more horses or prove any more of his silly false claims. He’s out of it due to lack of knowledge, talent and the determination, objectivity and drive to actually learn to ride. Lucky for the horses and their owners.

That was a rather unkind and uncalled for thing to say.

Ah, the wit of COTH! Thanks for making me laugh.

Downright rude, if you ask me.

Yup. Agreed @SillyHorse

So I’m wondering if he thinks the horse he is riding looks correct also? Like the topline… or lack of one is pretty interesting and I’m very curious if he genuinely thinks that is a horse in balance and uphill self carriage?

Like??? Does he not see the difference in those horses…the neck alone….

I think Nick understands “self-carriage” to mean “horse does not stop/fall down when reins are slack”.

I have never seen him say anything about getting the horse to seek contact.

This!

I rode with a trainer who also thought that contact was very light. Her “fourth level” TB simply never sought contact and she thought that was correct. She didn’t take lessons either. I rode him and had to adjust my ride when I learned more about dressage and rode with a German trainer. Since then, I’ve understood what contact is.

Good grief, that’s a thing. Is this recent?

Yes, but he deleted it fairly quickly.

This sums up the issue right here. He genuinely believes the way he rides is not only correct, but really, really good. It’s not lying or fraud; it’s ignorance and delusion. And no amount of explaining otherwise will ever change his mind.

Not only are those photos supposed to be demonstrating on the bit and self carriage, they are supposed to be showing a Third or Fourth level of engagement and collection. And yet he sees them and thinks they look like his idol Nuno, and can’t understand why the judge scored him in the 40s when his horse is “one the bit.”
