I am completely excited to try this! I have a 4 yo stallion with ridiculous hair. I was going to let it just grow out, because he will not tolerate pulling - but I HATE long manes…
He may be the ultimate experiment - even if it just improves I’ll be happy.
I just laughed out loud Sabovee–what a DARLING animal and that hair is precious. Gorgeous color too. He looks like a (handsome and talented) muppet in that hair. Please let us know how it turns out…he is just cute as pie.

Dude, take a chill pill. I’m betting that everyone will spot test their horse to check for a reaction. And there must be people out there who don’t react to Nair, or the company would’ve gone bust a long time ago.

It drives me craaazy - it’s like three full manes on EACH side of his neck. You look down when you’re riding and it’s just HAIR! I’ve tried to pull it a bit at a time, it’s akin to climbing everest with a group of 3 year olds…
Okay, I am going to try this on my bratty pony’s mane as soon as the weather clears up a bit that I wont feel so bad washing it out.

I would be nervous about reaction too because my skin isn’t a huge fan of nair and my horse has sensitive skin and gets hives easily, but then again he has a pretty easy mane to pull and keep tidy so I guess I don’t have a problem! Now there are a few manes I can think of trying this out on because of thickness and hatred of mane pulling!
well i did it! i only used a little bit of it and got some hair out, but it did thin it and i think one more time and it will be perfect!
now his mane sticks straight up, but at least it will be braidable!
he didn’t seem to mind it at all. his mane was pretty dirty, so that could have cause a little problem too. i will make sure it is cleaner next time.
i am thinking about braiding it so it will lay flat tomorrow. he looks like he has a mohawk! it is the same length for braiding, it just won’t lie flat. His mothers is the same way. I just let hers grow out since she is just a pasture ornament for the moment!

Another conversion to Nair achieved!!!
How easy! How effective!! Given that my new boy just got off the boat so to speak and that we’ve just conquered the fly spray demons I was really dreading trying to pull his monster mane. I left the Nair (“leg and body formula” I couldn’t find bikini line) on for 10 minutes, then washed his mane.
Like Samotis, I’ll probably do another pass with the Nair, but what a difference just this one time made!

Tried this to DISASTERIOUS RESULTS on Monday.
Applied Hair as directed… horse then shook his head. Nair EVERYWHERE. I immediately scrubbed with shampoo but hair was falling out in clumps. Horse is a DISASTER. He’s BALD in many areas. Even if I roach it, he’s going to look like he has some sort of illness.
I am sick to my stomach about what I did.
So, lesson learned. No Nair technique unless your horse will stand stock still for the entire time you’re applying and waiting for it to work.

I didn’t see this thread the first time around, but as I was reading the first page, I sort of suspected as much as what happened to you. Especially the part about using it where the hair already parts. Smelled like disaster to me.

So when I first saw this thread I was thinking “I really wish I would have seen it Saturday before I roached the top half of my DD ponies mane so I could tame the beast enough to braid it”. Then I read vxf111’s post and now I’m thankful I didn’t. I could just imagine what the 11 6 year olds at my house on Sunday would have thought about a pony with patchy bald spots rather than a precious pony with braids done in hot pink yarn
