The "NO REINSTATEMENT" thread.

so your boss has a case of no moral compass.

Harry,

If those in opposition can provide specific instances and proof that PV was coaching by walkie talkie or cell phone that should be taken into consideration. I am intrigued by the thought of how he could help his client if he couldn’t see her rounds however.

Did they have closed circuit television and a cameraman filming the rounds live and he saw it real time in an RV? So as soon as the rider existed the ring they were handed a radio to recieve instruction? Seems like this would be pretty hard to hide and would be frowned upon by USEF.

That would be pretty high tech and expensive and have to wonder who paid for all that gadgetry and labor?

So far, all we have are allegations on a BB and to my knowledge no specific complaint with evidence has been lodged with USEF. Unless some witnesses were willing to come forth with testimony and evidence I would have to say this is heresay.

Again, I have no dog in the fight and this thread would be awfully boring if everyone wanted to grab a torch and join the lynchmob

I am for NO Reinstatement of ALL of the offenders that have been suspended. I am wondering why the petition is only for PV and not any of the other people involved?

Dear Big Dawg, fortunately the vast majority of people are unllike you.

We are honest, sincere and well intentioned. I think everyone who knows me realizes there is 100% accountability for every penny and I never even deduct my personal costs when I make an effort to support a good grassroots program to accomplish a general good thing.I know there is no situation where anyone has ever believed I cheated them in any way.

Aside from my personal feelings about your statement it will be handled by our non-profit corporation which is a 501©(3) and which is bound under Federal Law through the IRS not to cheat with donations.

Although some may think they can use a non-profit as a personal bank, I don’t!

The pro re-instate PV’ers don’t seem to get that PB. Many many people are signing the petition after viewing this thread. Hearing things from other USEF members, well what all the drum banging did was make them decide. And that decision was not in favor of re-instatement.

Amen, anthem35.

What a great idea. I think War Adniral is working on that.

Amen grey mare. And if they don;t see it that’s our job to make them understand how we all “grassroots” feel. The ratings were down for the Olympics and they’re even beginning to realize that the "grassroots are what make the pasture green.

I guess I just dont know what use of media he COULD use that would provide him a chance to speak to people in person.

Do you have any ideas of what you, as a USEF member, might like to see or hear?

With regard to this and other posts, some (probably rhetorical) questions:

Were you in a position to listen to both sides of the two interviews that took place? So that you know exactly which statements were omitted? Do you believe Nancy Jaffer wrote a biased article?**

How do you reconcile your statements that PV wishes to speak to people personally and one on one with his refusal to speak to the second reporter?

Why has PV not come forward publically in the previous ten years that he has been suspended, as you say he is ready to do now? Is it a coincidence, do you think, that he discovers this readiness just as he becomes eligible for reinstatement and finds that reinstatement unexpectedly and widely opposed?

Why is and has PV been unable to find the words to publically and accurately describe his feelings, if in fact Nancy Jaffer’s article inaccurately reflected them? Why does he need to have a client ask people what they want to hear? I would have assumed he would have excellent communication skills as an instructor…

PV received a short probation, a $5000 fine, and a 10 year ban from the showgrounds proper, during which he has conducted, from his old farm, with the same name, (under new ownership of course) what is by a number of his clients’ accounts a thriving lesson and sales business.

Why does he need to push for more? Why does he think he deserves more?

I believe it is possible for people to change, especially in over ten years. Recognition of fault and remorse are possible at any time, of course, BUT, remorse and forgiveness are personal issues.

As far as organizational issues, why is the idea of permanent consequences for these absolutely appalling acts so difficult for so many people? Where will the USEF draw a line if not here? How will they deter and punish “current problems” if they will not take a stand here? Precedents exist in other sports organizations for a permanent ban.

Finally, while we’re watching the Olympics–do we want any of these people in the spotlight of Olympic competition?

**Back to BW–I think it is somewhat ironic that the forgiveness McLain Ward mentioned in Nancy Jaffer’s article was for PV turning in his father.

DMK and others–Public hearing would be a very good idea, I think.

Sorry for length and lateness but I just finished reading 20 pages of new posts…

Edited to add yet more words…

This is great news.

There were others who killed more horses and created more misery, so the playing field needs to be kept even.

Absolutely!

I had my trainer’s license at Belmont Park when I worked with my good friend Maud Frank, before her senseless death…You behave the way our hunter jumper killers did at a NYRA track…you are gone forever.

I am sure we shared some professors. What was your Div II? Mine was the completely atypical “traditional mathematics concentration”.

Good lord, I didn’t know Hampshire even offered math. My Div II was in performance, video and writing. I worked with Jerry Leibling, Tom Joslin and Elaine Mayes. I left before completing Div III and am currently, at a ripe old age, a college junior again. This time I can’t avoid the math.

Sorry you couldn’t keep Rocket at Mt. Holyoke but you made the smart decision. He was no doubt happy to see you when you were home and well cared for by your family when you were not.

I have not read enough to know if these people should be reinstated or not, but I do know I did not see this many posts about people convicted or proved to be guilty of crimes against people and are still allowed to go to shows. Just find that fact interesting.

Well I will be at the Convention in Cincinnati. Really sad we didn’t make it to New Orleans love that City of free spirits and non-conformists.

If you would like to send me a copy of your letters and War admiral a copy of the Petition I will personally hand deliver them all to the Board of Directors who traditionally ignore Petitions because the people who sign cannot be cross examined.

I will be ther and invite anyone else who like to join me to come so we can explain our sincere deep feelings to them personally.

You can send to my email as posted an the profile but I will need full names and addresses and hopefully USEF Member Numbers.

Yes Harry, and since the office might lose papers they want to have circulated I would ask for a hard copy or email I can print out. I find it most efficient to assume the direct approach to the Board of Directors. Especially those who want to include people killers, teachers of how to properly break a leg and any other tutors for how to damage or abuse a horse. Including but not limited to those who defraud the members of the industry by overcharging for horses and not respecting the rights of the owners.

Either did I… what did Chanda say?

Well, since you’re all so interested, Chanda said roughly the following, after being totally incensed at the treatment of another poster by a group of people on the “other” thread, and called out by name by Boberry to give an opinion:

There is no power on this earth that could force me to put my name to a piece of paper touted and signed by people who recently made light of the death of a good friend of mine, for the purpose of embarrassing and hurting his widow.

I like Paul, and I respect his right to apply for reinstatement. I respect the rights of his friends, customers, employees and riders to make their own decisions, and I call many of them friends. For that very reason, I feel my personal opinion should have no influence on the subject of his reinstatement. It falls, and should fall, under the impersonal decision making process of our national governing body.

Oh! Harry I wasn’t there but I would imagine he could be duded up without having to look like a fairy princess, don’t you think? Especially when no one seems to care if these suspensions are enforced or not. Maybe he was the guy selling hot dogs and pop?

I mean really, it was just bad judgment and it was just a horse. Cash flow is what really matters don’t you think? We’ve heard all the same kind things said about Barney that we’ve heard about PV. What the heck they did their time.

slainte! It’s not unusual for two farms to have the same name. The Acre Wild Farm in Rhode Island not Massachusetts is owned by Paul Valiere and is in good standing in spite of the fact that he is suspended. Many farms have two locations. The one in Wellingon is not listed as a registered owner of any horses.
I think slainte’s point is that the farm in RI doesn’t even exist anymore. </div></BLOCKQUOTE>

Exactly. It doesn’t!

A few pages back I believe I commented on thanking all of the members of the group for what they have done to our insurance rates. The people who embrace the thought of forgiveness certainly in addition to forgiving the horror of what happened to those poor horses have forgiven the fact that Valliere, Ward, Lindemann et al have their hands deep in our pockets.

anthem, I certainly get the gist of what you’re replying to in some of your posts. But, for those who haven’t read the entire thread, some of your replies are kind of hard to follow. (Your replies run directly into what you’re trying to quote - or what your trying to quote isn’t there?) (For the record, I agree with a few of your points. Who knew! Course, that doesn’t change my position one iota.)

OK! we’re here and I agree that it is the facts that matter. If we were to be successful in passing a Rule Change in January 2007 then we will not be here doing this the next 20 times.

So far we have been given no good reason why the conviction of anyone should be approved and the only evidence is the legal paper trail.

The issue is how will the Hearing Committee deal with this matter? Will those opposed to Re-Insttement have an approved way to be heard? Will we be notified when and if the time comes?
