I don’t think you want to get into discussing training methods, PV’s or anyone else’s, now or 30 years ago. Suffice it to say, when a trainer/rider wants to win, the horse will be “trained” by whatever method is deemed useful. What is considered actually “cruel” is a judgement call, but the methods used are most certainly not classical horsemanship. So, since PV wouldn’t be unique in this. Some of the most worshiped trainers mentioned on this BB all use the same methods…

I believe she has never said that he was wrong in what he did. It is obvious that when you stay and train with someone that has done this terrible thing, you are validating it. </div></BLOCKQUOTE>Huh? Chanda doesn’t train with him…what are you talking about? </div></BLOCKQUOTE>
Sorry, I thought she did, my post has been deleted.

Can you elaborate on that?
What was the issues with the horse? OCD? Spavins, old bows?

Chanda you are correct Acres Wild Inc is not owned by Paul. But Acres Wild Farm in RI is. And is listed with the USEF as active and in good sted. War Admiral did post the link to the information. This also can be validated by the USEF.
People, there is NO Acres Wild Farm in Rhode Island.
In this case, the “brownie points” consist of being permited to APPLY for reinstatement earlier than the others.

Snowbird, back on page 22 I posted as did a few others about not signing the petition. In a nutshell, having ridden with PV years ago, I don’t wish to actively support him, yet feel uncomfortable with actively participating in his persectution.
I can certainly respect the sentiments of those who sign the petition, but IMO saying that trainers who don’t sign it are implying they plan to kill horses themselves for insurance money is way off base.
Is that the same Dopey that was one of Snow White’s dwarfs?
Funny - it never crossed my mind to start removing keys from my computer keyboard.
Harry I haven’t figured out if we all were just fools or whatever. I remember those grass rolling outside hunt courses and at JET the horse had to walk shoulder deep in water to get to it. The horses today are like hot house orchids. In our time it was run and jump and ride off your eye.
How about the course around the pond in Johnson Park for the Middlesex show? I don’t know Harry but if you matched our days against these days I bet we’d win the class. When we were prime against what’s prime today I’d love to see that.
I’m waiting to hear from Paypal regarding using their account system. I already have a business account with them. I need to see how we’ll know if someone uses it who they are and their address for the return.

The funds raised will need to go towards the objective, if you will, rather than to a charitable act. If the mission were to fail, and Mr. Valliere is reinstated, a charity in the name of Roseau Platiere would then be in order, especially if it could be awarded at a show that Mr. Valliere is certain to attend. I tend to think that a scholarship might not be the best choice, given that most of the juniors who ride also have the means to further their education. Just a thought, I am willing to be shot down on this opinion.
How about having a grand champion hunter award in Roseau Platiere name at a horse show that would be in PV’s area that clients would be attending. Trophy and cooler would be given and purchased with the money raised.
Just to keep the contention at high pitch…it actually is a representative republic not a democracy.

It will only be bad publicity for the sport if they are actually reinstated. It will be good publicity if it is shown that instead of us all being spoiled, elitist, rich brats with no morals, we DO have people that care about doing what is right, and making sure our environment STAYS family friendly.
AMEN, that is exactly what I was thinking.
IMO, it is people like Mason Phelps, who it seems practically runs things in places like WEF, and who runs a media company to actually promote the sport (LOL!) that will “ruin” things and turn people away from the sport with his “friends” and attitude.

ummm, no.
Given the circumstances, I would imagine that the incident would have resulted in substantial legal bills. Having had a considerable operation, as well as a family to support, how were the bills to be paid?
- As far as any advertising goes…Was any advertising that may have been done false? Were donations that were reportedly made, not actually made? If the conditions to be met for any future reinstatement included rehabilitation as well as valid attempts to repay the community, why are such attempts discredited?
Are crooked cops allowed to support their family by rejoining the force? Are lawyers that have been convicted of cheating in their profession allowed to pay their bills by again practicing law? Is a banker that steals money from the bank allowed to work in banking again? How about a Dr. that has been convicted of killing patients? Ya think he should get his license back? Wanna be his first client? Hey! He has bills to pay too. <sheesh>
Some things don’t take Rocket Scientists to figure out.

Is that teen-speak? Or just a public school education talking…read what is being said, babe…If it is over your head, then tune to the Disney Channel.
If it were me and I needed to communicate about changes I had made in my life to change someone’s opinion of me I would consider a couple of things:
- Consider writing an open letter to the Chronicle
- Work with one reputable reporter (not in the Palm Beach area but a solid daily paper - think Boston Globe or similar) to tell my story.
He would have to be willing to let it all hang out as it were. The good, bad and the ugly. It won’t end up being a glowing piece but it should be truthful and balanced. A powerful resulting story would be hard for him to read in the end.
As for its content, I, personally, would want to hear less about all his good deeds (I know he’s done some great things for animals recently) and more about the flawed decisions that led him to making the final decision in the first place. Then I would want some expression of understanding that he knows it’s going to take a leap for many people in the community to trust him again. That he intends to earn that trust every day in real, meaningful ways.
I absolutely believe in forgiveness though it’s hard for me to look at my horse (who is perfect in my eyes - and hey, you’ve met him, he’s pretty cute ) and understand the As, Bs and Cs that led to the kind of decision that Paul made. But, forgiveness is possible - at least in my mind.
BaliBandido, that’s exactly how I feel. You worded it much better than I could have though.
I figured Big Dawg and Shelia had a child
Seriously I had a feeling it was him since he was posting on all the same threads and saying the same things he had before.
Thanks Erin!

I hope some of the lawyers on the BB will chime in, but maybe it could be worded something like this:
“We, the signers of this petition, believe that Paul Valliere should not be reinstated due to violations of USEF Rules forbidding banned members from entering USEF-sanctioned horse shows. Mr. Valliere was witnessed on the grounds at ________ horse show, _________horse show, and ________horse show, (with dates.) Notarized affidavits attached.”
I’m not a lawyer, but I am fairly certain you can not change/edit a petition once signatures are collected.
