Well my mare was in raging heat again two days after being checked and not in foal. So this is her last shot! We have changed some things around, we think that going to the vet was making her so nervous, that she would usually loose 50lbs over the three days plus reabsorb the follicle, so we decided to try the vet coming to me, I’m normally way out of his coverage area, but he is as invested in this as I am, lol! So fingers crossed we inseminate tomorrow!
Not a great checkup for me yesterday. Happily, Angel has caught to Romanov …
but Ditana did not catch with Quaterback (my last dose); and Ellie failed again with Sir Gregory. Will try a third time, and we are throwing the book at her to see how we can improve the odds.
So, Tessa and Ditana went to Guelph yesterday, with foals at side, for frozen breedings, and the vet will return today for more analysis/treatments for Ellie, while we decide whether / when to order semen for this heat.
Oh that should be a fun one! I love that stallion:)
Sigh. Lesley is empty on the Perigueux breeding.
I think I’ll wait and make sure that Malena’s foal is safely on the ground and Malena is okay. (She is at day 314). IF that happens, then I’ll try Escudo I on Lesley and breed Malena back to Fielding for one more crop.
And if that doesn’t happen, then 2011 is my last year crop.
Sunnydays and HAF, wish you had better results.
Rats! I was so hoping for a filly from that cross for you Kate!!! Fingers crossed for an uneventful delivery of your upcoming foal!

Bummer, I was so hoping for you. Sending safe foaling vibes your way!
Ah, bummer for you Kate, I was hoping that Lesley would catch. But good luck with Malena (seconding Hillside’s wishes)
I have 2 pregnant this year
EM Panache x Roi du Soleil (Rosandro - August der Starke - Rohdiamant) just had her 28 day check
Razzle Dazzle x Sir Gregory has a 14 day pregnancy for a repeat of the BEAUTIFUL colt from this year. This foal is for her owner (I leased her last year).
Kate - major bummer for sure.
But I’m happy for you Kris, and I bet you are way keen for next year’s Sir Gregory.
Heard from Guelph that my home vet misdiagnosed Contessa’s follicle, not noticing a CL present - so she is diestrous, and we’ll need to wait for that follicle to regress (I hope) so she can then be short cycled. Tessa always has something weird going on.
So, she and Sesame Street are in Guelph for a while (which will annoy Tess, who loves her turnout). Sesame Street is charming everyone there, with his bounce and sweetness.

I am sorry, Kate. Maybe some of my lousy luck rubbed off on a friend. I surely hope not.
Next year with 2 coming will be my last foal crop. I lost a third foal this week to a neck injury and I am done. If I were toast, I’d be carbon. Breeding has gone from fulfilling to one agony after another and I am quitting before it gets worse.
Well Mary Lou, that just sucks. Not much more I can say.
There is a lot less heartache being an owner than being a breeder. Perhaps you can take a couple of those wonderful horses you’ve bred and keep them for yourself. Watch Maya bring them up the levels. THere is a lot of satisfaction in that.

If this were Facebook, I could like that. Where is the duck and run icon when I need one?
But seriously, thanks, Kate. My plan is to raise the crew I have on the ground and get them under saddle before really trying to sell. Maybe keep a couple of the best to see them progress. I won’t mind having my girls retired at home. They are both eye candy and good therapy.
Mary Lou I’m so sorry. You have had a dreadful year, its not surprising that you’ve had enough. But in a couple of years time, maybe the breeding bug will bite again? I hope so because you’ve bred some beautiful horses.
Thanks, Stolensilver. I really did not mean to hijack, my friends. Let’s return this thread to two week wait and the results - hopefully better results than mine.
Two new pregnancy checks tonight with good news. This has NOT been the norm this year at our farm.
Brianna( Harvard/Azkent II/Fernal) in foal to San Amour. I can breed this mare to just about any stallion, and the result is nice.
De Lovely (Dormello/Rubinstein/Grundstein II) in foal to Sir Gregory. I love this mare. Total sweetheart and fun to ride for an amateur. She was a Brilliant Ring mare in Germany and hoping she will be a very good producer. Am seeing more and more Dormello mares show up in pedigrees of the really good foals.
Mary Lou, maybe give your mares off next year and re-think. I did not have any foals this year, and a year off might give you renewed interest. Though I can understand the desire to not suffer any more loss.
Well I think that my mare is just being difficult for the fun of it…
Ok, so the vet missed the first follicle - but when we bred her 16 days ago, everything looked good. So of course she would come up empty on todays ultrasound, with a 35mm follicle and ready to bred when the stallion and I are at a horse show… I love my mare. I love my mare. I love my mare.
I finally get to join the two week wait with my new TB mare, Colleen! She is approved through the AHS with the score of 7.83…I have been looking for the perfect TB mare, and when I saw her I couldn’t pass up the chance. I am putting my faith in the breeding gods and attempting Hohenstein. We shall see if they are in a giving mood in two weeks:winkgrin:. As my friend says “Go Hoho”!

Brave indeed! Would love to see this one registered Trakehner…
Good Luck!

Now that’s something I didn’t think of…might very well happen, I can’t do AHS, cause he’s not Hanoverian…and I don’t want to go with the OHBS again after the way this year is going. Trakehner sounds like a good option to me!
Oh and the wonderful woman who used to own Colleen is doing the breeding, and she checked out a drop of it under the scope…she said “it was about 40% progressively motile and what was motile looked very good” so I’m hopeful!
Yesterday, my new Swedish Warmblood mare Luna checked in foal to Freestyle! Yeah! She is still in Ontario but hope to have her home in a few months to finally meet her! Can’t wait!!
