“Timothy E. Snyder, 59, of Camillus, passed away Tuesday at home. Born in Portland, Maine, he lived in New Hampshire, South Florida and New Port Beach, CA before moving to the Syracuse area in the late 80s. He attended Corona del Mar High School in California. Tim was affiliated with horses his whole life and worked at the Finger Lakes Gaming and Racetrack for many years. He enjoyed spending time with horses and also enjoyed photography. Author, Joseph Layden wrote, The Ghost Horse, which tells the inspiring true tale of a one-eyed, club-footed thoroughbred racehorse and his trainer, Tim Snyder. Tim helped the horse overcome its deficiencies, eventually naming her in part after his deceased wife, Lisa, the great and only love of his life. Lisa passed away in 2003. Surviving are his daughters, Sierra (Rick) Chidester of Murrieta, CA and Ashley Serino of Amesbury, MA; sister, Cheryl (Joseph) Hall of Cardiff, CA; brothers, Edward Snyder of Cardiff, CA and Daniel Snyder of Washington; three grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. There will be no calling hours or services. Burial will be private in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Lakeland.”

I noticed they left out how she got the rest of her name. I am not big into funerals but it reads sort of cold that there are no services. Godspeed.

Those may have been his wishes.

I hope he had time to make arrangements for the mare.

How sad.

Wasn’t the mare bred last year …did she foal yet ?

Any of the family involved in horses? I wonder who will take her.

Lisa’s mother has a farm and I believe LBT is there, as she has been during layups in the past. I am conjecturing on this but I think Tim would have made ironclad plans for her. When I talked with him about his cancer a year or so ago, I had the impression that he was doing well. I don’t think many people knew he was so close to death, or sick even, based on the shocked responses of so many people, espeially racetrackers.

Tim lived a helluva life! At times like this I hope there is a heaven of some ilk and that Tim and Lisa are together and that, this time, she will keep him in line! RIP Timmy: we will be telling your stories for years to come.

How sad. Wasn’t the mare bred last year …did she foal yet ?[/QUOTE]LBT was bred to Disco Rico last year (who has since passed), but it was not successful. Snyder’s child (not sure of gender) maintains a LBT Facebook page which has been rarely updated, but stated in Feb. that Lisa was in the process of being bred to Big Brown. No further word on that.

Oh, so sad. But he’s now w/ Lisa.
Loved to follow LBT. What a tale.

LBT’s Facebook page now confirms that Lisa is indeed in foal to Big Brown…

oh how sad. RIP Tim and I hope you found Lisa…
I also hope that plans were made for LBT to have a soft landing. I can’t imagine Tim not thinking of that!

From what I recall reading, on her deathbed Lisa told Tim to look for her since she’d come back as a horse.

Ya think maybe … ?

Lisa delivered a Big Brown colt last night. Happy Valentine’s day Tim!

I hope that mare has a permanent home with Lisa’s mother.

Great that LBT had her foal last night!

That Lisa’s Booby Trap had a foal last nigh and that it was a colt deserves a thread of it’s own.

I do hope he does well, and that he inherits his mother’s heart.

Go LBT!

Terrific! Hope to hear more!

Nice stats. 18 starts, 10 wins (55%), in the money 83%.

Nice math! Here’s some more- she was a $4500 purchase.

I had really not followed the story of LBT until I read this thread. Having been to Finger Lakes I had somewhat of an idea of the area, quality of racing, and track. We actually have a mare here that won about $200K over 5 years in the claiming ranks at Finger Lakes so I felt a little connection.

So I got the book “The Ghost Horse” through Abebooks. Joe Layden writes a powerful story about more than just mundane days at the track and which I knew when a tear came to my eye reading just the introduction would take me on an emotional journey. The naming of LBT is a hoot but so authentic to be believable. I can’t imagine hanging out at a Florida strip club named The Booby Trap, just to get a free lunch but that’s certainly an interesting money saving concept. Certainly Tim’s LBT registration is a better story, than the misspelled name of our last Triple Crown champion.

I do recommend the book to everyone. A visit with Tim, Lisa, LBT, and the cast of people and horses that surrounded their short life together is well worth a few bucks, your time, a box of tissues, and, if you are like me and getting old, an upgrade in your reading glasses.

Shammy, I will have to check that book out. You might want to cross post on off topic, I’m sure the non-racing crowd will be interested.

I am late to the thread, but I am hoping that Lisa and her baby are doing well.
