To tuck or not to tuck? A completely pointless thread. ;)

Schooling, no. Unless it’s winter and then I tuck the first layer for warmth. Belt is questionable.

Lessons, tucked and belt. Unless winter, in which case you cant see whats going on anyway because of all my layers.

Forelock ALWAYS untucked!

I always wore a belt with my britches (when showing), but never wore a belt with blue jeans (hacking, lessons).

I hooked myself over the horn by my belt once! Now I always put my hand over the horn when I dismount, thanks to COTH advice from katarine.

OP - for schooling, it depends on the shirt. If it’s fitted and fairly short, I leave it untucked. Otherwise I tuck in it. For reasons like the one above, I don’t like having lots of loose flapping fabric around when I ride.

I sometimes tuck and sometimes don’t!
With a belt, I usually tuck my shirts, and I usually wear a belt and tuck for lessons.
For schooling I don’t really worry about being visible to an instructor, so I can wear whatever loose tee shirt or puffy jacket I feel like, and I tuck or untuck depending on if I like how that shirt looks and feels tucked in.

Forelocks always untucked, but I don’t ride horses who have enough hair to have trouble seeing through it!

Tucked in and with a belt. 100% of the time.

Nope - no belt no matter what I’m wearing. I can’t think of a much more uncomfortable piece of clothing than a belt.

Untucked shirts, but I wear fitted shirts anyway. Unless it’s winter, in which case I also tuck the first layer to avoid drafts (but the first layer is usually a skin-tight cami anyway).

Forelock depends on how out of control it’s being that day (bushy Welsh pony forelock!) and whether or not I’m using a fly bonnet (usually untucked, but braided and tucked if out of control or under a bonnet).

I like wearing one, so I have a place to hang my knife. I find it uncomfortable to ride with one in my pocket.

I carry mine with my phone in a leg holster or if I have on breeches that have a thigh pocket (OMG best invention ever) it can go in there.

My childhood hunter trainer definitely instilled that habit so deep I wouldn’t know how to stop if I tried. I pretty much can’t imagine getting on without a belt and my shirt tucked in. I did finally ditch the hairnet and hair up in the helmet in favour of a tidy braid, but that’s about as brave as I am even now.
I haven’t ridden with her in 10+ years but I’m still worried she’d take away my stirrups if she caught me

I find a tucked in shirt to be very uncomfortable. I never showed, so no one cared about my appearance when riding or driving. But I did learn the hard way to tuck my shirt in when riding.

One day I dismounted and didn’t realize my shirt (which was pretty loose) had caught on the horn. So I dismounted right out of my shirt. Of course there were a ton of people around, and plenty of men. Oops.

If I’m riding outside of a lesson, clinic or show, I wear whatever the hell I want, and it’s not at all likely to be tucked in. No one will see me anyway, and I let comfort and weather dictate what I wear. I always wear a helmet and boots, but other than that, almost anything goes. The other day I was too lazy to change out of sweatpants so just zipped them into my winter riding boots, which have extra space for them. I think I was also wearing a Carhart jacket, so I’m sure I was the height of fashion for the zero people who saw me riding. Usually, I’ll wear breeches or tights. Only a belt if they need one. Forelocks tucked under browbands make me twitchy.

No tucking here. A tucked shirt just … bothers me. I could wear a bodysuit if I really, really needed that “tucked in look.” I belt my breeches if they have belt loops.

The mare’s forelock stays untucked.

Shirts tucked in with a belt; especially during lessons/clinics to aid the instructor in seeing if I’m level in my hips or not.

Forelocks always out.

Yes - to stop my tee-shirt getting caught under my butt. Being large-busted, I wear “larger than required” tee-shirt and they are quite long. During the winter, I wear a vest over the tee-shirt that holds most down

I tuck if I’m wearing summer/fall breeches that have a belt loop. In the winter I usually wear fleece lined riding tights with a vest over.

I personally hate all things tucked in. I’m a polo shirt and or short t-shirt person, and if my trainer isn’t good enough to see what I’m doing then I’m paying him too much $$, lol. My old TB had 6 hairs maybe 2 inches long in his forelock, so no tucking there. Current Lusi has miles of forelock and it is NEVER tucked or braided.

BTW took a clinic with Sharon Poulin a few years back - she never said a word about the untucked, striped polo shirt, but said she wished everyone rode in horizontal stripes because then she can see whether the rider is level or leaning:yes:

Always tucked in, with belt, year round. It’s clean and tidy. Forelock untucked. But one horse requires a bonnet so his forelock won’t tickle his tiny, sensitive paint ears. So does that count as tucked??

Always tucked in with a belt, except in winter if I’m wearing my fleece tights. Forelock depends on the browband. With my beaded one, tucked so you can see the bling. Otherwise, usually untucked.

Always a belt, always tucked! I am a belt hoarder though, and hate having breeches falling down…but in winter when I have 8 layers and no one can see i go sans tucked!
