Tori Colvin annouced retirement of Way Cool, Inclusive, Canadian Blue, and Ovation
BP owns Clearway & Patrick.
Patrick was listed at the National Horse Show with Scott Stewart as the owner, and his horse report on the USEF site reflects that.

I stand corrected regarding Clearway. It will be interesting to see what she does with him now.

I’m also wondering if Betsee will buy another string of horses for Tori to ride as a professional, or if that relationship will just fizzle out now that she’s aged out of the junior divisions.

Announcement of the retirement of all of the BP owned junior hunters: 11/2

Announcement of new drug rules which can hold owners, et al, as potentially responsible parties if a horse fails a drug test: 11/3

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.

Announcement that those horses were going to be retired after indoors: months ago.

Not all of them. Read the rest of the thread.

Fascinating timing, isn’t it? To quote Mycroft Holmes, “Coincidence, the universe is rarely so lazy”

Um, well, except that the new rule (allowing accountability for owners, and riders, for drug violations) was actually approved months ago - the press release was to solicit feedback from members at the rule-specific town hall at USEF’s annual meeting.

GR 404 regarding accountability for drug violations added that “persons responsible” could be held accountable, which may include riders, owners, grooms and vets. Approved 6/30/2015, to be in effect 12/1/2015 (start of 2016 competition year.)

Pg. 8 here: https://www.usef.org/documents/ruleC...BODmeeting.pdf

I feel like this board is often like Fox News - facts are optional.

You miss the point. The rule may have passed earlier but not only was no one really aware of it, but it could not affect her horses THIS year.

Maybe you weren’t aware of it, but plenty were; there was a COTH thread on it in July for christ’s sake. I guarantee anyone as involved in the industry as Betsee was aware as well. Whatever chemical prep those horses used for most of their career was designed by Rivers Edge - I’m sure the four were not unique among Scott’s horses in that regard. (And if you read the court transcript, Betsee’s private trainers asked Rivers Edge what that prep was to continue the program when they left. It might have changed when the horses switched to Heritage care - but that wasn’t until the end of August this year.) If Betsee retires all of the horses she has with Scott, I’ll start to buy this argument.

Mollie Bailey is looking into it and she is THE BEST!!! No guarantees she’ll find anything (sounds like searching is time consuming and she has plenty on her plate already) but she agreed to look.

Wait, what is she looking into exactly? I think I missed something here.

I don’t know BP or TC or SS but this thread has turned into a witch hunt. Does it really matter as to why the horses are being retired? The owner (any owner for that matter!) can determine to do what they wish without having to share a reason or ask the public for permission.

I don’t see anyone jumping up and down about American Pharoah retiring at a perfectly healthy age of 3. Yes its go to stud…again… a decision by his owners.

Trying to find a COTH article that is referenced earlier on the thread but that I could not find on the web.

Gotcha!

FWIW (and this makes me feel slightly less nuts) she thought my description of the article rang a bell and that she had read it too at some point. So I feel entirely less insane. Too many specific vivid details for it to be a TOTAL figment of my imagination.

I remember reading this somewhere as well. Could it have been in the Court documents? I feel like I read it more recently.

Hey vxf111, I remember the article you are talking about too. If Mollie can’t find it in the COTH archives, it might have been in Practical Horseman. Just a thought.

MAYBE… but I haven’t had a subscription to that in a long, long time so I think it’s far more likely it was COTH?

At least I feel marginally less crazy that other people recall this article too!

You’re not losing your mind! I know I read that same article somewhere too! It highlighted how intuitive Tori’s riding was, and used Way Cool as an example of how certain horses would only go well for her.
