trailer advertising

I’ve had my Brenderup listed on horsetrailerworld.com for over 2 months and it hasn’t sold. Any suggestions for where else to list it? Also have it posted on Facebook and Craigslist.

Are you getting any interest in it? Are you sure it is not priced too high?

I’ve had 3 inquires. There is an identical trailer, one year older, listed for $1250 more than mine. That ad doesn’t say anything about the floor ever being replaced, whereas mine has a Rumber floor now.

I would try craigslist and then search facebook for trailer sales groups and post there.

When something sells instantly you priced it too low. When it doesn’t sell after a long period it’s priced too high. The Law of Supply and Demand governs pricing. Be guided accordingly.

I sold mine via a horse trailers for sale group on facebook in my state. It did take me 2-3 weeks though and sifting through a lot of messages from tire kickers.

Do tell, O Wise One, what is the appropriate amount of time for a horse trailer to sell?

in the horse industry it is easier to sell something that isn’t for sell… hang a sign on the trailer saying this trailer is not for sell and stopping asking me… that should bring out the curiosity seekers

The appropriate time varies with how badly you want it gone &/ want (or need) money in your pocket.

How many places on facebook?
Find riding groups in your area (not just sales groups) that allow trailer ads and post there too.

Clearly it is less time than yours has been for sale because you are asking why it is not selling.

How long has the other trailer (that you are comparing your pricing to) been for sale? Are they basing their price on your ad so both of you are too high for the market?

Here is the thing that sucks about selling - If you really want it gone then your pricing has to be adjusted for that. If you are willing to hang onto it and you insists on top dollar then you will have to wait for that buyer to come along.

Unfortunately, Brenderups in particular have the added problem of not being sold new in the States anymore, and I’ve heard that parts can sometimes be hard to come by. You might want to target Brenderup lovers in particular, folks who are already familiar with the trailers and know the challenges with getting repairs done.

Brenderups are hard to sell now because they are hard to repair. Try the FB sales groups.

I looked at all 12 trailers listed on the website you listed and could not find one that said it had a new floor. That would help.

Try reading for comprehension: “Rumber floor installed in 2012.”

And I would target them how/where??

The question in this thread was, where else should I list it? Very little help has been given here. It is now on about 7 Facebook sites, both trailer specific and horses/tack.

Oh, and one potential buyer did tell me the Blue Book value showed my trailer’s price at the high end of the range. (Which means the one a year older than mine is surely overpriced.) However, I’m sure the Blue Book doesn’t account for replacing the floor with Rumber.

Two months is not terribly long. Make sure you have nice photos. If I were looking for a trailer, I would search widely and it sounds like you have it advertised in the right places. There are people out there who love Brenderups and there aren’t that many around, so it may be a matter of waiting. I have seen trailers at dealers that sit for a few months. And if you are anxious to sell it soon, then drop the price OR note on the ad that reasonable offers will be considered.

The pictures are too small. You need to show more details and more pics. The outside of the trailer looks dirty or weather beaten. Picture of the 12 volt outlets doesn’t help. Installation looks dodgy and the interior is dirty too. Show the replaced floor in detail and why the change from OEM. If I were looking for a B-up, I would pass your trailer by because of these reasons. Competing B-up at that price has a much more appealing ad.

Well aren’t you special. I looked at every ad on the website twice to try and see what made your ad stand out in order to help you and compare local prices. Since floors are a major issue in Brenderups a trailer with a new floor is important but I didn’t see mention of it.

With that attitude never mind.

Maybe we are not giving you the answers you want, but we are trying to help. Might want to realize the difference when asking for assistance with something.

There is a Blue Book for trailers?

I have to agree with this. (Which @OTTBs is helpful advice.)

Clean the outside so it does not look stained and moldy. Take more photos of the trailer and post them. If you feel the addition of the 12v outlets is a good feature then show it, but show it so it can be seen. Your photo is so dark it is impossible to tell what one is looking at.

Your ad is written like you assume everyone looking at it knows all the details of your model of trailer and you are only going to point out the stuff that is different about yours. You might want to add the basic information and assume the person reading it knows nothing about what is great about your brand of trailer.

I also do not see one on the same site that is one year older that is $1250 more than yours. There is one that is one year older and $1750 more. Is that the one you were talking about?

I am not sure if your snappy tone is intended, but realize this type of tone will quickly make an interested buyer walk away and shop elsewhere. No one wants to pay top dollar and deal with someone who is snarky with them. Snarky can be ignored if there is a deal to be had, not so much when the price is average.

I hope your find a buyer. Selling can be so frustrating.
