Simply tell her that she’s putting you off with all the Amway pressure, and if she doesn’t stop, you’ll stop hauling in. Period. Nice and simple. It’s the only thing that the Amway/Mary Kay/born-again Christians understand. Either you lay off me, or I’ll stop associating with you. Done.
HA! TBRocks, my hubby and I also got accosted by some “friends” who invited themselves over to push their Quixtar on us when we also were much younger and dumber. I had a patient try to peddle Arbonne on me just the other day - saw that coming and headed it off at the pass! So annoying. If I had extra money to donate, I’d give it to a worthy cause.
To the OP - make your position clear and say “NO” to the Amway stuff. Believe me, she’s heard it before. Sounds like she’s pretty desperate and I’d be looking to move on. Could be worse though, it could be slumber parties she was hosting
I actually like the Amway products and used to buy them from a friend who understood upfront that I was not going to be recruited.
I would buy them again under the same circumstances but most people are more interested in recruiting you than in selling. I ran into the same thing with a vitamin supplement program…I was a customer but not fodder, so the lady wasn’t interested.
I think you have to be just as ‘in your face’ as they are…no, no, no Not Interested.
There are also other instructors.
I know exactly who you are talking about, and I can guarantee you - it will not change. The woman is a decent trainer, but she will drive you nuts and attempt to drain you of every last dollar that you have. And if you don’t do it “her way”, she’ll attempt to make you feel guilty. It’s not worth it - and I say that after many, many years of attempting to figure out how to deal with her. Run…

Or Herbalife…
If she is in business as a professional instructor/trainer, can she legally conduct another business on the same premises, at the same time? Can she bring the Amway business into the time of the horse business?
kahjul, As an Avon rep, I’m sorry you’ve been having to deal with this kind of selling. Avon, also, as turned into a “leadership” sort of pyramid. I’ve been selling 16 years and I want no part of that. It is very, very difficult to make a lot of money in this type of selling. I don’t press anyone at our barn about Avon but I’ve sold hundreds of lip balms at cost to my GMO to give a free gift to the riders at a show.
Amways powdered detergent is great for those big front loading washing machines that clean horse blankets but need a low suds soap. Fortunately, my Amways dealer understands “No, I don’t want to sell” and hasn’t bothered me. Tune your trainer out about Amways or find a new trainer.
I saw a Mary Kay sort of beater-ish red pontiac the other day. Is that what they’re giving out? It seems like kind of a gyp…
Ugh, I know where you are coming from. I had a trainer a few years back (whose stable I boarded at, tack shop I shopped at, and from whom I bought my first horse) who started selling Mary Kay as a side thing. She is now obsessed. I don’t think she does anything with horses anymore except run the tack shop, and the tack shop is plastered with Mary Kay propaganda.
I’m not a very assertive person, so her high-pressure sales pitch was killer. I ended up buying loads of of stuff from her that I didn’t really need (nice stuff, but I can get almost the same from walmart for a lot cheaper). Don’t make that mistake. All that happened was that her pressure on me to buy got even worse. Eventually I had to walk away completely.
Sounds like a trainer I had years ago except it was Shaklee. I will admit that there was some decent stuff that Shaklee made that I used both at the barn and at home, but she convinced me to be a salesperson… I was my best customer, hmmmm, also sold most of my Avon stuff to myself as well… I guess I as not cut out to be a salesperson… TG.
The sad thing is that now I realize how little I learned from her (riding wise) although she gave me a lot of confidence. She was always looking for another “angle” to make more money. Thank godness she moved away and ai found a really good trainer!
Northern California? Hee hee, he’s working So Cal too. He has Quixtar tucked pretty deeply into what he calls the Sabo Group, so watch out for the pitch. I suspect he randomly calls people who have horse-related advertising when sales are slow

Yeah. It’s a Cadillac or a Pontiac. (I wonder if there’s a price/level/recruitment difference in what you have to sell?) You are allowed ‘red’ or ‘pink’ now!!

I think it’s a cadillac. My stable friend who was selling Mary Kay could stop talking about “the Pink Cadillac.” Personally I couldn’t drive anything pink, even if it’s free.

I’m with the others, RUN like you’re Big Brown.[/QUOTE]
Funny, funny, funny, laughing my A$$ off - but is so true RUN!!! When I was a youngster some 20 or so yrs. ago i worked as temp at Amyway for few days until I got fired and lemme just say- it’s a weird, weird place. Nice compound though ;). RUn like you’re BIG BROW!
Oh, I could rock a pink car, especially a pink cadillac… but a beaterish red pontiac? It definitely wasn’t a nicer pontiac.
Well, we had the talk. We’ll see, she promises not to mention it again…we’ll see. If Only it works!!
OH Please keep us informed with updates!
Good luck
