Trainer Vick Russell Arrested for Shooting at His Son and Killing a Horse

I watched Yellowstone during the few seasons, mostly to look at Kevin Costner.
God he looks good in a nice cowboy hat !
But as the show’s story lines became darker, I watched less.
When they brought in the reiners, I quit all together.

I’ve never actually watched the show, but I’ve heard a few things about it.

Is it true they brought in real reiners when they started that storyline, and even had them act a little bit?

There’s quite a few episodes that have real cowboys and rodeo stars playing themselves and contributing to the storyline.

My favorite was the cameo from legendary cowboy Buster Welch who was 93 at the time. They basically let him just talk about horses and horse training in his scene, pretty unscripted, and it was great.

Indeed, they were going to work in Reining as something the ranch would be involved in as a sponsor/ownership player, but that was discarded for the later seasons, due to the story priorities, actor scheduling, and COVID. Ironically, Taylor, Cole, and Kevin were all making appearances at horse shows as PR for the show and their businesses interests.

The McCutcheons and their reiners filled most of those spots.

I may have to go back to dig up just that scene. But I have no desire to watch the rest of it.

@Mardi1, I agree Kevin held his own in western fashion.

I believe the Schmersals too.

Please start a thread dedicated to him IF you want. Tell us how you found him, his personality, his favorite treats, your favorite photos, what your dreams were….all the things. You and he deserve to have your story shared outside of this tragedy but only if you want to share it. We can all wait as long as you need. And if you want to hold his story close to your heart, that is ok too. You and Harry deserve time and space because this awful thing is so much to deal with.

I would like to get a special urn for myself and Vick’s son who also loved Harry. Does anyone have any ideas? He deserves a beautiful resting place

HeatherB, I just took a quick look on Etsy. If you search custom horse urn, there are some beautiful options to memorialize your sweet Harry. May he be eating all the treats as he watches over you. :blue_heart:

@HeatherB Your grace during this terrible time is impressive. My heart goes out to you and to everyone who loved Harry.

No. No he isn’t. You haven’t seen the other side of him. He hits on young women and wants them to be his Gf. Sure, you get to ride the nice horses, but there is a price to pay. I’ve heard stories from from his nephew that would make you scream. It’s not pretty.

Heather, I am so sorry about your horse. Idk what I would if I lost mine do to the neglectful actions of someone else.

“His next court date is July 19 in Polk County District Court”

Does anyone know what happened at his court date?

Probably just arraignment and bond negotiation.

Right, I was curious if anyone had details.

I just got some beautiful work from From Earth to Art. I don’t suggest an urn because that will be an incredibly large amount of remains if you keep them all. I did a bowl, a “wonky heart,” and then she tackled a request to braid in some tail hair into one of his last shoes.

That’s how I read it, too. He shot the horse first, then continued on with the argument with his son. Just appalling, particularly for someone who’s supposedly a lifelong, local horseman of note.

I can’t believe the cruelty and trauma heaped upon Heather, the poor horse’s owner.

I hope if there were kids around to witness this horrible scene, they are getting professional help. What a terrifying scene it must have been.
