Trakehner Cross Ponies *Pics Added*

AF, do you have any stallions that you would suggest? My choice isn’t set in stone especially since I just started working with this mare & am having tons of fun with her! I think I’ll hold off breeding her until 2014 so she can get a good start first.

What are your must haves in a stallion ?

I will weigh in on this temperament concern that was voiced. I can only speak for Baron Verdi, as he was born at our farm, raised here until 15 mo of age, then shipped to the US, and had a pretty stellar dressage career until he was asked to do too much, at too young a age, and it backfired. And that was not owner’s fault, I might add - the intentions were clearly for something else to happen.

BVs dam is about the most rideable and lovely horse to be around, testament of the formidable Anduc line (which btw is also the line that produced Hailo). Baroness’ dam produced several performance horses, including a great grey gelding who showed at 4th level successfully. This is also very close maternal relation to the CIC** eventer Banner. The direct dam line also produced Ballzauber, also now in the US, and his is further the branch of an all time great sire, E.H. Banditentraum.
BV’s sire line is proven beyond any doubt, also in the temperament department, if you believe that this is heritable  Maybe I am fairly biased about this particular stallion, but I have to say that he is breeding far too few mares for the performance he came up with as a very young horse, and the type of offspring he has put on the ground (e.g. YEH champions on the West Coast).

Best of luck with your breeding !

Thank you, Maren! You just confirmed everything I’ve been told about BV. He’s definitely still at the top of my list. BV is strong in my mare’s weakest areas & an excellent mover but I have to admit I was still a bit concerned about his temperament.

Maren, you didn’t touch on the sire line, of course Anduc is known to be super in the temperment department no one can dispute that. Many horse are handled improperly or asked to much to soon yet they all handle stress differently, Partout was not easy at all and Monteverdi was not so easy either, But they were excellent sport horses.

AF, in answer to your question, I’m looking for a stallion that will add some size to my mare (depth of body & width), has a strong topline, loin, & good hock angle & dressage movement that won’t take away from my mare’s temperament & jumping ability.

Michelle,
I think Fandango is an excellent choice, some other to look at are.
ImagerPs: ridden by his amature owner, also gives you GraditzE the sire of TziganePb, have seen full siblings and all are good.
Magritte: sire of HunoPs and stationed in the US.
Lord LocksleyPs: Very good pedigree and performer.
Pavarotti: robust stallion, good mover, double Mahagoni.
Tagaelen: competing, sire is heavy and gives you some blood.
TraditionPb: evented, is GraditzE and Mahagoni grandson.
I see you already love the breed and I hope you the best with what ever stallion you chose.

TraditionPb: evented, [/QUOTE]

Tradition stands at my friend’s barn. His foals are lovely, and when I asked her about temperament for another friend of mine who is considering breeding her TB mare, she said that his offspring have all had great temperaments. In fact, I asked specifically about improving on the mare’s temperament (not that you need that).

If you haven’t looked at him her website is http://www.espritequestriancenter.com and I know she collects and ships.

Thanks for all the input. I did forget to mention that I’d like to keep the stud fee at right around $1,000 (give or take a couple hundred). This means shopping stallion auctions when available for some of the more expensive stallions.

I was Googling the stallions suggested & came across Lord Cosmo. I know that “no good horse is a bad color” but WOW! I didn’t even know Traks came in pinto. What a handsome boy (and not just his color!)! In a perfect world, I want a pony THAT color!

Lord Cosmo is beautifully bred. Lord Luciano is no slouch either LOL

So is Lord Cosmo throwing anything with color? I’m on my phone & my searching abilities are limited but all his offspring I’ve found have been solid

He is heterozygous, so has 50% chance of throwing pinto coloring each and every time.

I don’t believe he had sired any color. Ask Debra Tylord she’d know for sure. I don’t think he’s had many babies though so there may not be enough to get a good handle on what comes from him.

I’m still trying to figure out color genetics but Lord Cosmo appears to be tobiano & sabino (color peeps, correct me if I’m wrong). Does the fact that my mare is sabino increase the odds of getting color or not?

Monteverdi was not so easy either

That puzzles me greatly. Monti was a highly rideable, very very motivated stallion and had a unique mind (don’t know if you were therem but he was approved as 2yr old, he stood in the spotlight in NMS with clapping and cheering all around, and he was asked by his owner to show off a bow - like the Spanish sometimes ask for. Granted, he was a bit distracted by the masses, but that stallion could focus on his human, really nice).
His offspring (an I’ve met my share) were nothing but a joy to work with. Partout was very masculine and that stood in his way, but “difficult temperament” is something entirely different.
Now, if Monteverdi offspring were “difficult” or whatever you attribute them … then Anduc kids were just the same. Seriously

I do want to throw in that I saw just a video of Lord Loxeley (I think that’s his name, Tylord bred horse, grey) and I loved that stallion’s expressive movement and rideability. And really good bloodlines as well!

I love the photos I seen of Lord Locksley, unfortunately he appears to only be available via frozen, maybe by the time I’m looking to breed my mare (2014) he’ll be available fresh. I’m a serious sucker for a grey!

I’ve had a couple of people suggest Imager but I can’t find any info on him other than ONE online picture…

Might not help but his owner rides with Carter Bass. His owner’s contact info should be on the ATA site. Contact her. She stalled next to me in TN super nice lady.
