Trakehner Stallions from back in the day....

so it’s gloomy and rainy and my feet are cold and this has crossed my mind in a “Where are they now” kinda thing…

I’ll name a Trakehner stallion and you guys tell me what became of them professionally…either in the performance area or in the breeding shed…what discipline ?

and if they did not “do well”…why if you feel brave…:lol: they are at least 20 yos old if they are not dead and gone

I’d actually have to look up off spring on several but Target I know immed. He’s no longer w/us. Was not majorly bred but what he had did well and prob Larissa is his best foal. She is a mare (still alive) who did very well in eventing. I forget how many World Championships, Olympic, Three *** and Four **** etc that she competed in.

Meistersinger did quite well in dressage (Grand Prix?? Would have to look) site of mult other UL dressage horses. Has an approved son, Krechendo.

I got to see both Falke and Tarim in person. Gorgeous boys. Judy Yancey owned Falke and brought him to a Trakehner annual meeting in Ohio in the 80s. I swooned over him.

Other great names - Mahagoni, Mahon.

Fabius, Tropez and Sigurd were owned by Anita Hunter here in Redlands. The Hunters moved to the northwest. I don’t know the status of the stallions but they should be long gone by now.

Fabius had two nice approved sons. I think both are available frozen.

I have always wondered about my Hanoverian/Trakehner cross mares Trakehner side. Not much information exists of her Dam sire “Sobek” or his sire “Fresk”. Supposedly Fresk was a pretty good eventer in Germany. Anyone know these two at all?

I think Flora Jean has retired Windwalzer. Saw him a couple of years ago in California at the ATA meeting. He is a magnificent creature. Very noble and kind in his expressions.

Sobek is by Fresk, the only Polish Trakehner horse listed among the top ten producers of event horses, the remaining nine being thoroughbreds.

Fresk’s dam’s sire, Rumian, is the son of Rittersporn, the originator of famous European jumping lines. Rittersporn is by St Saulge. He sired female jumpers Warszawianka and Wizja, both becoming Olympic mounts. His three most significant stallions were Rumian, Rybak and Ramzes.

The line produced by Ramzes is legendary today with one of the greatest descendents being Ramiro.

Sobek also descends from Bafur who produced three stallions who competed in the Olympic Military event including Arlekin II who won the Silver Medal.

Sobek’s dam is Sobietaka, thought to be one of the most valuable mares in Trakehner breeding in Poland. Sobietaka produced three colts who won gold medals in the national stallion competitions and who became head stallions at state studs.

Thank you Twelvegates…that is the most information I have seen yet on her Trakehner side. More impressive than I imagined. No wonder why she is so good at eventing! Her mother was GP at dressage…never had been jumped, and I had assumed she was dressage bred. I had heard from someone Fresk was supposedly a good eventer, but thats all I knew.

Sophie is out of Beeza supposedly by Falke though I have never been able to prove it. I don’t have new pics of Sophie but I found some of her half brother

In 1978, in New Jersey, I took some of my very first dressage lessons from Major Vitold Slaski. He and another man (who I saw STILL showing about three years ago at the New Jersey Horse Park) Marty Bregman, had two facilities right across the road from each other, called I think Springbrook and Winterbrook. Anyway, Major Slaski was Polish and just when I was there he imported a Trakehner stallion named Sobek from Poland. He was a chestnut and I think must have been one of the first ones imported. Some years later I lived in Connecticut and rode with Melanie Tenney and a young guy (now dead) named Calvin Harrington. Turns out Sobek had been sold to University of Connecticut and Cal was riding him some–I think eventing. My friend (met her at Melanie’s) Meredith Hoag had a filly by Sobek. But I don’t think he ever did much competition-wise or had much success in the breeding shed. Looks like he mostly was used to produce event horses.

Also after I moved to Maryland in 1986 I became involved with PVDA and saw a lot of Meistersinger. He was owned by Larrrine and Russ Abolt who had Water’s Gift in Burtonsville, Maryland. He did show through FEI with Felicitas von Newman-Cosel and then Kelly Weiss who I believe was an ex-figure skater. Kelly and Meistersinger participated in an exhibition that I helped organize at Gunston Hall in Virginia (we showcased a bunch of horse stuff) in about 80 zillion degree humid weather in around 1994 or 5. The Abolts sold Water’s Gift and moved to I think Meistersinger was sold or they took him with them and later sold him. I believe he is dead now.

Thanks rebecca…I even pulled out my mares mothers paperwork to see if she wasn’t the one your friend had, but no, she was bred in NJ by a lady named Alison Godfrey Dardek. I bought the mare with my mare in utero, but she did come from NJ.
I didn’t even know that Sobek was in our country…I thought he was overseas. Of course, he is sure to have died by now or I would have loved to have seen him! Was he tall? My mare and her dam were smaller…15.2.

Tamara in TN–I can fix you up with your first Trakehner horse if you would like! We are few in numbers but are beginning to make progress! Especially in eventing. They are smart, tough, and gorgeous to look at. Several breeders in Tennessee always have quality young stock for sale at a reasonable price. The Volunteer State does a good job producing sane and sound Trakehners. The ATA is like an extended family and the mission statement says it all–goal is to promote and protect the Trakehner breed in North America.

Anybody heard of Boraks. I had a foal by him many years ago (Many years ago!) He stood in B.C .but I think I last hears of him working cattle in Texas.
He was one of the first warmbloods up here - back in the day.
