Trakehner Stallions

I starting to look into breeding my Trakehner mare in the next year or two. I want to take a good amount of time finding the right stallion to fit with her. My list so far consists of Songline, Halimey, Tatendrang. Has anyone had experience with these guys or their get?

I am looking to improve canter & add some bone. A good/rideable temperament is a must with the stallion.

A little about my mare… 15.2 by Windfall out of Actress (Avignon II). She is very scopey (easily jumps 5ft) and has a very nice walk and trot. Canter is a little pony like, but has a fantastic gallop.

Just adding a few photos of my mare incase anyone has any other suggestions that would match nicely with her.

Added her full pedigree: http://www.allbreedpedigree.com/aurelia+nsf

Look at Donaufrust and Siletto. I have a mare by Donaufrust and she is amazing. Great temperment and 3 comfortable gaits. Rocking horse canter.

Tatendrang’s owner is on this forum. There are a few COTHers who have his babies and love him, IIRC. He’s on a couple of threads in the same forum you’ve posted in.

Tatendrang’s owner, Anissa, is acottongim on these forums.

I bought my filly from her and have a breeding to Tate available. He’s super nice, fancy, and can do about any discipline. That doesn’t mean he’s necessarily the right match for your mare, though. If you give Anissa a call and really asses the strengths/weaknesses of your mare and what you’re looking for, she can tell you if he’s a good match or make suggestions. http://emeraldacrestk.com/

Tate typically scores 8’s and 9’s on both his walk and canter in dressage - both in rated dressage shows and at horse trials ;). He is VERY uphill and tends to pass that to his offspring. There are lots of links to various videos of him and his kids on his Facebook page (www.facebook.com/Tatendrang). He’s very rideable and the first kids that have been started under saddle the owners report the same temperament and rideablity from their Tater Tots.

I took these two photos on the same day last year of Tate and one of his colts: https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=10151311589723624&set=a.402618418623.175311.321197458623&type=3&theater He very much stamps his kids  Feel free to call or message me (here or on FB) for any questions. And if you are at any of his events this year feel free to go and see him - he’s quite the cuddle bug and Andrew would be happy to answer any questions for you as well.

Both Tate and Songline are in the ATA’s SSA that is going on right now (ends on Friday, Feb 14).

I think one factor I have particularly appreciated about Mr. Tate, as a USA born and bred stallion, is watching his development every step of his journey. As a Facebook fan I have been able to have a front row seat on his journey and it has been a delightful and impressive one. Thanks to his wise handling and great interior and exterior qualities, we watch as he eagerly and successfully says “yes” to whatever challenge are put before him. (Oh and if you need “legs” he is the one to give them to your foal!) I just love this horse!

Thank you omare! That makes me teary eyed. I never thought of that before - he’s just my Tate and is giving us a very fun and exciting journey.

I also love Tatendrang, but I’m also a huge fan of Buddenbrock, I think the US are lucky to have him available, so I would take a look at him too…

Tate is obviously getting it done and Anissa is a lovely person who is passionate about the Trakehners and won’t steer you wrong. That said, I adore my Oskar II mare. I am planning to breed her dam back to Oskar this
year, fingers crossed as she is 22 and Oskar in around that age.

I love my Oskar baby, too. :). She is ridiculously fun. Someday she’ll have a Tate baby - talk about combining nice lines - her full sister’s Tate baby is sure nice, too! (Ellie is Anissa’s youngest of 3 full siblings.)

If you check out my Flickr, you can see what Stiletto and Tagaelen did.

My new mare is awesome. Stiletto is her grandsire, Tagaelen is her sire.

Tatendrang is an amazing young stallion. So much to offer in the breeding world.

I’ve also been quietly watching Tatendrang and admiring him. He is on the top of my list for my ATA mare. He really is a stunning example of the breed and it has been great watching him come up. One of the awesome parts of the internet and they have well documented all of it. Plus it really does appear that he is passing on his great features to his children.

I keep saying this will be the last year my girl shows then I am going to breed her, but she is doing so good that I have a hard time saying “okay lets take a break for year.” I thought this would be the last year as the girl that was leasing her headed off to college last fall, but since I didn’t want her just sitting I let another girl start riding her and they are unbelievable together. I can’t wait to see them go around the ring at their first show in a couple of weeks. I really think they are going to clean up together.

I really like your mare. I wish you had a video so that we could see the movement, but she really looks great in the photos. Love the jumping picture. Looks like she has great scope. I would defiantly check out the ATA Stallion Auction cause most of/ if not all of your options will be right there.

Thanks everyone! I have sent Anissa a message about Tate.

Anyone have experience with Tzigane or Tanzeln?

Trak_Eventer- we had two half brothers to Tanzeln, as well as his dam and grand-dam. They all had excellent temperaments- very kind and with a great work ethic. Tanzeln’s sire is very well known for athletic, rideable horses. Hope that helps.

COTH members have made some good suggestions. Tate’s a handsome, young stallion and He, Songline and Tanzeln are in the ATA SSA. There are usually some good bargains to be had, but it ends Friday. Here is a link to my Aqua Farms Facebook page. https://www.facebook.com/aquafarms.sporthorses
and to E.H. Buddenbrock ATA stallion. page. http://americantrakehner.com/stallions/Buddenbrock.asp

We have had 6 by Tzigane and have 2 by his approved son, Semper Fidelis.

They have stellar dispositions!

They can move, they can jump, they can gallop, and they have a good work ethic.

DD is riding the ATA Intermediate Ch, DH is riding the ATA Res Ch Novice, (he was just 4). We will also have 2 youngsters who will begin their careers in 2014. One of them had the highest FEH score as a yearling in 2012.

Tzigane also has one competing in jumpers with a junior rider and they just placed 2nd in a ch/AA $2500 jumper class, and have only been a team for Bout. Month.

Your mare looks stunning!! Little Bounce, eh?
Even in still images one can sense her jump. What is the other side of her pedigree?

I will second everything Tuppysmom has to say about Tzigane. I have known that stallion personally since 2001 when he was approved, and see him regularily here in Germany. The work ethic is impeccable. Apart from his own performance career at advanced levels show jumping, he is known for his many appearances in public doing “unusual” things for stallions - he is the vaulting horse for a bunch of kids at his new home stable in Germany, has been seen “herding” 4 of his own daughters that were turned out with him in the indoor arena (he was under saddle), plays horse football, was the first stallion at the big Gala Show in Neumünster to jump over fire (at 4+ feet or so) and more. In short - Taz’ character is one of its kind.
He has offspring old enough to perform under saddle, and the first have reached /* levels. His oldest foals in Germany are now 3, and are beginning their careers under saddle.

I like the idea of bringing Burnus AAH (in Windfall) and Ramzes AA (in Tzigane) into one and the same pedigree.

Second reply re Halimey and Songline. Both have plenty of foals from their time in Europe. Songline’s offspring are winning, age-appropriately, in all three disciplines, and his son Eiskönig was approved. Songline kids all seem to have very good frame and size. I would chose a mare with some blood and a correct hind pastern angulation for him. He is very well “understood” genetically, and you can almost be guaranteed a look-alike to himself. I have yet to see a Songline kid that doesn’t look like him. Expect neck improvement (length, neck set).

Halimey’s oldest get are also riding age and are likewise doing very well. High scorers in mare performance tests for example, and top places in free jumping competitions. I thin of the stallions discussed here he is the most “like” your mare - he is taller, but the way he jumps, his conformation in general, is pretty “rounded” and he is not a refiner, despite his blood. Again, the addition of high quality Angloarabian blood to your mare’s pedigree is very appealing (that said w/o knowing her bottom line, preferrably one with TB blood). Halimey’s offspring are usually praised for their very laid-back temperaments.

All about Tate is already in the posts above
