I just received this helmet and am happy it fits. But I’m concerned about what looks like a lack of ventilation. Has anyone used this helmet in a hot and humid climate? I currently have a One K Defender, which I love, but the microfiber model is too hot for me in the summer. Looking for an option with better air flow. Thanks in advance for any input.
I’m curious as to what you think - I saw them advertised, and my first thought was HOT. That is how BOT works - creating heat. I’m not sure if that is what they use in their helmets though.
If you like the One K - why not look at the non-microfiber model? They are a bit cooler, and a bit lighter feeling.
I have this helmet and like it a lot. I rode indoors yesterday (training young horse) the arena was very warm but I was completely comfortable in my EQ3. I have had it about a month and I think it is a super helmet, this coming from a fan of One K’s. You get two inner liners which is also a nice touch.
There is no BOT material in the helmet. They are just the Is importer for Trauma Void.
I’d call your local store and ask.
I rode two horses in the helmet today, where it was 85-90 degrees and around 60% humidity. First of all, I didn’t even notice I was wearing a different helmet. I’m like the princess and the pea. I notice when anything feels different, and for me to not feel any difference is noteworthy. No tight areas or uneven pressure on my head. Also, my hair was considerably drier than days when I wore my One K. So far, I’m very impressed. I also like the fact that the helmet comes with two liners of different thicknesses for a more customized fit. For me, there’s not a huge difference between the two, so I switched them out between rides, for a nice dry helmet! The one small annoyance I have is that it’s a little tricky to get the liner straight inside the helmet. The One K has snaps. The Trauma Void has Velcro on the inside of the helmet that grabs onto the first piece of liner it can find. I had to remove the liner and start over several times. I think that, once I get the hang of it, it will get easier.
I made a mistake in my original post. I wrote Back on Track as the manufacturer, when they’re only the distributor. There is no BoT material in the helmet. Trauma Void is the manufacturer. The reason I wanted to try it in the first place, as opposed to another One K, is that the EQ3 contains a safety feature used in motorcycle helmets. It’s new and I don’t think anyone else has done this before. It’s supposed to lessen concussive impacts more than current helmets. I still love my One K, but I rode in the EQ3 today and loved it, too! And my hair was not sopping wet after riding two horses!
Dover does not carry this helmet at this time.
I own the helmet and it is much, much cooler than my CO Ayr8 - closer to how cool my old Tipperary was- and cooler than my old OneK. I’m a very oval head and it doesn’t fit me super well- it’s a little rounder than my head- but I still will wear it for shows and very hot days.
I have one and now I don’t know what to do with it. After riding in it a few times, I just don’t like it. It seems to sit more atop my head than around my head, if that makes sense. It also started to give me a slight headache but it did not at first. So it just doesn’t fit 100%. The larger size doesn’t either. I shouldn’t have kept it, but I wanted to like it and it didn’t seem so bad at first.
I’ve been riding my Tipperary Sportage in the warmer weather. I’d love to use the MIPS and all that, but if it doesn’t fit, it doesn’t fit. My OneK isn’t so bad, but it’s on the shelf for now in the warmer weather.
I went from One K to the EQ3. It is less hot and fits my head perfectly. I think I’m a long oval. I felt the same the first time or two riding in it, but now I really like it.
Interesting. I’m more of an oval shape, and I think the EQ3 is a better fit for round.
I’m intrigued by them, as I have always been happy with my OneK - I was the first one at my barn to get one and now half the barn rides in them.
Here’s my concern - motorcycle helmets are designed for impact at speed, not height. What have they done differently to address it with these helmets?
I would look more the the certification standards versus the specific technology used to meet or exceed that standard. The trauma void is ASTM F1163-15/SEI certified, meaning it met or exceeded the latest certification standard testing. The OneK Defender I just bought has the exact same cerifiction.
By the way, motorcycle helmets are also subjected to drop tests.
I just ordered a Trauma Void helmet and I’m waiting for it to be delivered! I was hesitant to order a helmet without trying it on first but I can always return it if it doesn’t fit me right. I have a One K that I only wear to show in now and the fit is a little off for me.
I have ridden in Tipperary Sportages at home for a while now because I’d rather replace it than take a chance but I am excited at the MIPS technology. I have had two concussions in the last few years and I am still kind of feeling the effects with extra sensitivity to light and more frequent headaches. I somehow have a knack for falling on my head if I’m going to fall
Okay so it arrived tonight. It’s going back I’m going to exchange it for a smaller size and see if that fits me better but I feel like my head is too tall(?) for it? There are no gaps anywhere and it slides around a small bit, enough for me not to want to get on a horse wearing it, but I also feel like it’s too shallow height wise and that it’s more sitting on me like a baseball cap than a helmet. Maybe I’m just used to how low the Sportage goes in the back but I feel very exposed.
If it doesn’t fit, it doesn’t fit (and mine doesn’t, sadly). But do remember that the MIPS technology will make even the best fitting helmet feel like it moves a little on your head- that’s what MIPS does. But there’s a different between the sliding action of the MIPS and moving so much that the helmet will come off in a fall. Only you can know the difference based on how it fits you.
I’ll be looking at them in a few weeks(road trip). So, microfiber or smooth?
The microfiber is a touch more dressy but both are classic looking. Nice helmet- very well ventilated. Just doesn’t fit my extremely long oval head. I’ll suffer and smoosh it on and get my money’s worth and hope, hope, hope they release a long oval version one day.
I don’t think a smaller size will help. I think that they are just too “shallow” for some of us. Myself included. It just isn’t deep enough, so I’ve switched back to my Sportage. I’m still on the hunt for a “nice” helmet. I have a Onek and don’t love the fit. It also feels a bit shallow and I should’ve opted for the long oval version perhaps.
That’s disappointing. I wanted to keep it in the under $300 range but I guess I will have to keep looking and maybe up the budget for a show helmet. In the mean time I’m sticking with the Sportage. But I still want to try on a Kask and a Uvex.
