Who on god’s green earth approved “knocking on heaven’s door” as a song to start a horserace with??
I was out at an event all day. Who won?
Read the other topic?
Great stretch run. (Which was all I saw.)
The way 2020 has gone, I’m delighted that three different horses won the three Triple Crown races.
@Larksmom i don’t get why someone would tell you to read the other thread and not just answer you. It was Swiss Skydiver! She was amazing
That is one gritty filly- and Robby Albarado’s ride? Brilliant!!
You left out the best part! The lead singer singing “America” immediately before everyone else sang “knocking on heaven’s door.” That was one of the biggest BLM protests yet and most people didn’t even notice. I freaking LOVED it!
I am gutted that the first Preakness I haven’t attended since 2001 was such an absolutely fabulous race but am happy they all came back safely. Now hopefully people get their crap together and we can put this pandemic behind us so I never have to miss one again.
Because the other topic had the winner in the subject and was posted before this question?
Yay girl power!
I loved that she won. Although I don’t understand why she and Authentic were the only two horses who showed up to race today.
I thought the choir performance was beautiful! Way to go, Stronach (for once)! Does anyone else think they should have tried a little harder to incorporate something like this at the Derby though (or did I just miss it)? Because Louisville/Bree Taylor, ya know? I know people in that city are hurting (my sister lives there) and it seemed to me like they villainized protesters stating things like “there’s heavy police presence” “expecting extreme acts” yada yada
Just curious what others thought, please don’t COTHkill me yet ðŸ™ðŸ»
Just my impression:
On Derby day, I think Churchill Downs was just trying to get through the day without any injuries to either horses or people. They were well aware of the firestorm brewing in the city and were trying to keep it outside their gates (literally–as police were lined up shoulder to shoulder along the exterior fence closest to the barn where our horses are stabled.) There have been “extreme acts” on Derby day in the past, and CD was hoping to prevent a recurrence of that.
The Kentucky Derby is one of the most watched sports events each year, which makes it a lightning rod for people trying to send a message. It has been exploited for that purpose before. CD was just hoping to run their race(s) in peace. Don’t forget, not only were the Breonna Taylor protestors watching, PETA was too.
I believe CD was trying to avoid any potential controversy and keep things low-key as possible in order to keep everyone safe.
I also don’t know how much credit we can give The Stronach Group for the musical arrangement. Those type of decisions are usually made by local level management. But I don’t have any first hand experience with planning the pre-race entertainment so maybe I’m misinformed.
@LaurieB . Yeah, I suppose you’re right. There are better places to make a statement than a horse race, especially with all the pressure we’re currently under inside the industry. Just me ramblin’
Nadal has his bags packed for Japan. Shadai Stallion Station has acquired and will stand Nadal. Nadal, undefeated son of Blame, was retired after a LF lateral condylar fracture requiring surgery.
