I think Charlatan will benefit most with the derby in Septemper. I love Tiz the Law but I think a derby in May would have been better for him. Nadal feels like a horse who needs the lead but he is a good horse.
Anyone know how tall Nadal is? He looks huge.
Martin was based in Arkansas. I assume heâs moving his tack to Churchill Downs when it opens.
Charlatan is on a flight back to California today.
Drayden didnât ride Charlatan in the AD because Baffert was concerned that Drayden hadnât been riding in CA due to COVID-19 restrictions and yes, Baffert has had a good relationship with Garcia in the past.
Unless Garcia moves his tack to CA, not sure how you think he will âbecome more accustomed to the horseâ. I personally donât see Baffert flying Garcia in to races in CA when Drayden is already riding in CA. I would think Drayden would get the rider over Charlatan in the future.
Charlatan has been in 3 races, winning all 3⌠2 under Drayden and 1 under Martin.
Yes, maybe Drayden would ride Charlatan in the KD. Maybe Mike would get the ride. Depends on whoâs in the gate the first Saturday in September⌠Charlatan? Nadal? Both? Neither?
Guess I donât follow the thought process on why Martin should get to âkeep the rideââŚ
Charlatanâs breeding rights were sold to Hill N Dale today.
Not surprising considering Stonestreetâs connection as his breeder.
I expect Stonestreet will support him.
Churchill Downs has released a list of additional races that will have Kentucky Derby points.
It can be seen here: https://www.paulickreport.com/news/triple-crown/churchill-releases-extended-schedule-for-derby-points-races/
COTH really does dislike the Paulick Report. Trying again with a different link. Churchill Downs has released a list of additional races that will provide Kentucky Derby points:
He was certainly impressive today for sure. I donât want to rain on your parade but itâs also not clear exactly what he was beating in that race. Iâve been burned far too many times on futures bets this early to take a shot on a horse this unproven, but good luck!
Just announced: the Belmont will run on June 20th at 1 1/8 mile with a 1M purse. This makes it a one turn raceâa huge difference, IMO.
Oh nooooooooooooo.
A one and one-eighth long Belmont running as the first âjewelâ.
NYRA was stuck after the Preakness and Derby dates were announced. And in the grand scheme of things (pandemic deaths and economy in the toilet) the Triple Crown is a small thing, butâŚnoooooooooooo.
Iâm right there with you on the Oh noooooooooo!
This makes it a one turn race, which is terrible (from a historical perspective). But it will make Bob Baffert happy and that was probably the reason for doing it.
Iâm assuming Charlatan as he was the last âheâ upthread
This is awful. This is not the âTriple Crownâ. This is not that goes forever stretch run on the Big Sandy.
Just YUCK!!
IMO, and feel bad for the owners/connections of promising 3YOs, this year we donât have a TC.
A one turn, 1 1/8 mile Belmont as the leadoff does not a TC makeâŚ
I get itâs the same 3 races but I do not see how this is a TC to be compared with past years.
Belmont Stakes, June 20, 1 1/8m (plus KD qualifying points)
Kentucky Derby, September 5, 1 1/4m
Preakness, October 3, 1 3/16m
If a horse wins all 3, you can bet he will be advertised as a Triple Crown winnerâŚwith an asterisk. My concern about this is that horsemen will scream when (and if) they turn the Belmont back to 1 1/2 miles. People have wanted to change that distance for years. This might give them the ammo to do it now. Once again, dumbing down.
Yup.
I hope the Belmont is back to 1 1/2 miles next year, it would be best for everyone if there isnât a Triple Crown winner this year.
Even if the same horse wins all 3 races, it wonât be the TC IMO.
They can call it the COVID crown instead 🤡ðŸÂÂťâÂââ˘âŹĂŻÂ¸Â;)
