Triple Crown 2021

Rombauer!!! Medina Spirit was game, but the tank was empty.

Wow. Rombauer! Always nice to see a homebred win.

Rombauer wins, MIdnight Bourbon second, Medina Spirit ran out of gas, finishing third, Keepmeinmind fourth.

Poor Midnight Bourbon, if I pick them to win, they seem to fade.
I loved Rombauer’s trainer. Mike McCarthy worked for Todd Pletcher, and Mike grew up close enough to the track to hear the call of the races.

What a great horse Donna is riding.

Yes, I was thinking maybe behind, then could see him using his right front odd.

Glad all came out ok from the race, any more you don’t know.

The one that won put in a fabulous finish.

McCarthy is verklempt. It’s so sweet!

Anyone here know anything about Rombauer and his story/people?

After the race when MS came back to a walk, I thought he looked short on the right hind.

He had caught my eye during the post parade, but I didn’t expect that performance from him.
Well done & congratulations to Rombauer & all his connections.

My longshot pick had been Ram… guess he really was a longshot

It’ll be interesting to see who shows up for the Belmont in a few weeks.

Pretty happy with the result for several reasons, not the least being that there’s not a tainted Triple Crown on the line. THAT would have been a huge mess. Hopefully now the news will die down.

I didn’t see the after race, was back on the news.

When I saw him first time, he was not saddled and being led and seemed to be taking odd steps on the right front, got my attention, but they don’t keep the camera on them long enough to tell much.
Next I saw him being led already on the track, walking and rider was showing him giving on the right hind and then I could see that left front and it still looked out of step?
Loading he seemed fine, racing all was ok, didn’t get to see him after the race.

It is hard at times, horses ready to run tend to be on the muscle and not just walking along without a care, at times moving oddly, but not really off or sore.
Guess at that level, so many eyes on them, everyone is already on the ball, nothing much would not be seen and checked over.

The stories coming out of the winner are so nice to hear, hope his tests will come out clear.

That is neat, Zonderpaard, to have picked that winner, a rather obscure one at that.
He sure earned that win, hope he runs next also, has earned a spot there too.

Who is the race caller? I disliked the call intensely. Overly dramatic, exaggerated rolling r’s, very distracting from the horses.

I love all things Candy Ride and I am happy to see he’s producing some very good sires. Twirling Candy stands for $40k at Lane’s End.

Concert Tour certainly didn’t perform to expectations.

I liked that Rombauer’s jock gave props to the groom and pony rider. Apparently he was quite “on his toes”. I missed the post parade but nice of him to thank them for keeping his backside in the saddle.

Flavian Prat seems to be a true class act. That colt was bucking AS they put Prat on him! I guess he was right fresh!
