One thing that has ALWAYS annoyed me - would it KILL them to show the breeding at some point? I know the overwhelming majority of viewers doesn’t care, but it’s not like it would require hours of research.
At least I can check on my phone if there’s one I am interested in and don’t know/can’t recall the sire and dam.

Definitely no booing of MS just as I expected. Excellent race. Midnight Bourbon caught my eye on the walkover to the paddocks he is an incredible example of what a good TB is supposed to look like.

I’m used to it, so I always have a window open to Bloodhorse “entries” for that particular race which provides breeding, jockey, trainer, owner, breeder etc. for each horse, in the race that you choose.
I agree, I want to see the pedigree and the breeder but can’t count on the network TV to provide the info.

No, I didn’t think booing would happen either. People are glad to get out and racing again, and race fans that could attend would be very unlikely to actually “boo” a horse and jockey before a race.
Never seen a horse “boo’d” (sp?) in a post parade. I doubt it ever happens.

Curious, is the first “big race” you’ve heard called?
It’s typical & normal fashion for callers to be excited.
It would really suck & be boring as hell to listen to some monotone drone calling the race.

No, not the first “big race” I have heard called, because I am older than dirt. I think the first “big race” I heard called was the 1953 Kentucky Derby when Native Dancer lost to Dark Star. I enjoyed the calls of Secretariat winning the Triple Crown, and also American Pharoah’s call.
But Rrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrombauer! seemed silly and exaggerated. Happy you enjoyed it.

I’m not a Larry Collmus fan either. I miss Tom Durkin and Trevor Denman; they added excitement and color without making the race call about themselves.
I loved Tom Durkin’s call for Cigar, and “Tiznow wins it for America!” in the breeders cup.

I suspect Denman didn’t call Del Mar last fall because he is older and would have had to travel. Don’t think we’ll hear him calling Santa Anita but maybe (I have no idea) Del Mar again this summer.

I always liked Trevor Denman. I liked Dave Johnson too.
I think that it is great for racing that there have been two “feel good” stories from the triple crown races so far. Rombauer’s connections, being a homebred, etc, and of course the story of Medina Spirit. It’s just too damn bad that has been overshadowed by BB’s issues.
And, if you did not see the SNL bit on BB, you should. I believe that there is a link on the other thread, and it is pretty on target, for the most part. The 'roids stuff goes overboard, but it is cute.

I like Larry Collmus’ calls… why not pump things up a bit? I loved Dave Johnson… " … and DOWN the stretch they come!" and Tom Durkin - although he almost botched Mine That Bird’s Derby call and missed him until he was actually in the lead… but “And here he is, the unconquerable, invincible, unbeatable CIGAR!” will live forever.
And Trevor Denman’s … “THIS… is… un… be… LIEVE…able!” as Zenyatta came from waaaay back (as usual) for her Breeders Cup classic win…
And then there was Durkin calling Arrrr…

I figured out to go to Equibase and look up the race, and they list the breeding (sire, dam, damsire). I like knowing too!
