Triple Crown races 2024 - KY Derby (& Oaks) - Who's following?

We sure don’t need another Into Mischief!

How many are there now? According to the BH Stallion Register there are 25.

Well he’s a Goldencents, but my point is his breeding is about as common and as popular as it gets right now.

Yes, it sure is. :slightly_smiling_face:

Thanks for saving me posting that.

Yes, they’re a long way back but to me that’s part of the fun of tracing the relationships.

Indeed! I can trace my horses lineage much, much farther than my own.

No fine for Tyler for his ride in the Derby. I am a little surprised by that, I thought he would at least get a nominal fine just for appearances. Glad that’s over and now we are on to heaven. I mean Pimlico!
Editing to add the first article I saw was incomplete. He was fined $2500 for touching Forever Young.

All around I thought it was a good day. Has any horse bred outside of North America won the Derby?

If not, I hope the Japanese will be the first to win it.

Riding a lugging horse is no fun, but it must be really difficult at Derby speed with the stirrups up.

English-bred *Omar Khayyam won in 1917.
English-bred *Tomy Lee won in 1959.
Venezuelan-bred *Canonero II won in 1971.

Thanks. It’s been awhile then.

Mystic Dan is in the Preakness!

I don’t think he will win but I am glad Mystik Dan will be there. I would be ecstatic if I were wrong however

Same. Personally I am just not that thrilled with Baffert. In my ideal world, Muth is heavily favorited and then upset—preferably by Mystik Dan, but other horses are acceptable.

I genuinely hope they’re taking Mystik Dan because he looks 100% and not because of external pressures.

Me neither. I’m so glad this year’s coverage of the race wasn’t all BB, all the time.

There are more horsemen in the world than him, and Personally, I think he’s sleazy.

Northern Dancer, 1964 winner, was bred in Canada.

Canada is part of North America. :slightly_smiling_face:

Oops my mistake! I missed the “North.”

Two GB-breds: Omar Khayyam (1917) and Tomy Lee (1959)

Only four horses bred outside the US have ever won, and two of the four were Canadian.

What about the Venezuelan bred horse mentioned by ejm?

Let’s not forget the Canadian-bred 1983 Kentucky Derby winner Sunny’s Halo.
