I wonder if he has fan T-shirts …

What is the footing in the paddock? It looks like red linoleum but it’s not. So anyone know what it is?

Does anyone have a gift link to this clickbait article, by chance?

Congratulations to Thorpedo Anna & all her connections.

I wish.

But to answer the author: yeah, the horse knows. IMO.

That has always been my feeling (in the jumpers at least!). Would love to read the article to see the reasoning there.

Thorpedo Anna back story is interesting about her dam being premature etc. It notes the breeder opted not to euthanize TA’s dam as a premature foal, which I assume many would have (justifiably) done in light of the challenges.

Does that also mean though that the breeder had to pay the very hefty Uncle Mo stud fee or in situations like that will the stallion team at least revisit the stud fee?
Thanks

In theory, once a foal stands and nurses the stud fee is due. But how a case like this will be handled depends on where the stallion stands.

I’ve been watching a Youtube channel all week that has footage of the Oaks and Derby horses’ workouts and baths, etc. It’s been pretty neat. One thing I love is how Forever Young looks like a chilled out trail horse when he’s just being ridden around at the walk. Rider has feet out of the stirrups, reins in one hand on the buckle, like they’re out for a leisurely stroll. Also, Fierceness looks nice trotting around…he’d be a cute hunter/jumper, LOL.

I just hope they all make it around safely today. Whoever wins, wins. I’ve gotten kind of attached to all of them watching them all week. Be safe, baby horses!

I’ve never had an experience with a sick, premature, or injured foal where the stud fee wasn’t due if the people intended to register.

Many lifetimes ago I cared for a premature TB born at 200-something. 290? 270? I can’t quite remember now but it was crazy early and insanity to keep him alive. But I remember talking to his people about paying the stud fee.

Not TB, but my surprise STB filly was born ill with little chance of ever racing and I’m still in negotiations with the stallion owner, who is trying to make money off me even though I wasn’t the breeder and had no part in the mating. I’m not sure I’ll ever get that stallion certificate released. I hope in a few years once her racing value is totally gone they might negotiate with me over papers if I agree to sign them over a sporthorse only. Problem is she has enough residual value as a broodmare to make them want their money. Thoroughbred people are usually nicer IME.

Putting my bets out there for the universe:

I have Fierceness, Sierra Leone, and Just a Touch boxed. Also win bets on all 3. My kid made me put money on his pick (Dornoch). He’s 4.

I recently went to watch Dawn at the Downs. Amazing experience. I was wondering who this horse was. I know it’s a pretty generic chestnut horse, but both the horse and the exercise rider caught my eye. I don’t think it is running in any of the big races (it probably just lives at the downs). If anybody happens to know this horse’s name I would be very interested.

@erouland, I can see why he caught your eye. He’s lovely!

How could that face & expression not? Adorable!

Most likely an unraced two year old. Hopefully someone recognizes him for you.

Mental bet only (so if I lose, I will lose my mind) but I like Stronghold today. Yeah it was not the toughest version of the Santa Anita Derby but he is a scrapper who has already won at Churchill.

He has a Man o’ War star&stripe!
