Triple Crown races 2024 - KY Derby (& Oaks) - Who's following?

I am giving it a (long) shot: Bet Resilience across the board.

Same here!

If I were actually betting, I’d take Sierra Leone and Fierceness in either order. Plus a bet on Stronghold to win.

I really hope the surface is going to be safe today.

I’ve been wondering about their feeding schedule. I can’t imagine a 7pm race not interfering with the barn schedule.

Seize The Grey! Yay!

I think it’s stupid. They didn’t wait so late years ago to start the race.

NBC is not doing a terrible job today! High praise from me. They have way too much time between races so people can bet at the track. That is almost certainly why it used to go off at about 4:40 pm central time and now it is an hour and a half later. They are still doing fluff peices, but I am realizing they do have to play to the non horsie crowd too. these people wouldn’t know a race horse from a cow pony and they have to be entertained. But golly gee, I was watching TVG this morning, (rechristened as Fan duel,) and it was so nice to see people actually talking about the races, and not all the fluff.

7 pm is relatively easy to work around. Most of the summer, Churchill Downs has night racing (to maximize west coast betting) so the whole card is after 7pm and the last race is at 11 pm. That’s a real chore for both the horses and the barn workers. (Turfway Park has similar night racing all winter.)

Is my time-zone math correct that it’ll will 3:57 pm on the west coast??

It would be fun if one of the Japanese horses won.

Sunday Silence back full circle to the Derby.

Haven’t watched in a few years but watching this year. Some of the features and commercials have really upped their respective games and have been interesting. May all horses come home safely.

Head says Sierra Leone. My heart says West Saratoga.

Where are the horses?!!! Too much coverage of overdressed non-involved people.

After much waffling back and forth, going with Fierceness and Brad Cox, either one… Longshot is Stronghold. Or maybe Chad Brown gets his first Derby. Make a case for a number of them.

Looks like the heavens are about to open up, nothing like hard rain and slop to complicate picking a winner this year. May they all walk back into their stalls in about an hour.

Or the celebrities or influencers ( gag) who pick their picks because of the tail.

I don’t know if you watch every year, but this is a lot less fluff than we usually get. It is still too much but honestly, it is a lot better than usual. They have a lot of time to fill for the ninnys who only know the derby, and no other race.

When you know nothing, you find a reason to like them.

I was a guest at a Greyhound race track in Vermont way back when, and knowing absolutely nothing about greyhound racing put a $2 bet on “Sky High Petunia” solely because of the name.
Didn’t win!
