Trumbull mountain. Bad experience update, got a check

Time line of my experiences with Trumbull Mountain
Sent a saddle for consignment about 10 months ago.
The saddle appeared on their website, all was good.
A few months later, saddle disappeared from website. I called several weeks later to check on it and was told it was out on trial.
Great!

I checked on the website a month later and saddle was still not on website. I called and the saddle was still out and person on phone said they thought the person would buy it. I’m still feeling good.

I get through the he holidays and then remember the saddle. I call again and am told it’s still on trial. I reply that it’s been on trial an awful long time and was told it was returned and someone else has it.

I calll again a few months later, in early March, and ask and am told it’s still out on trial and then the guy backtracks and says actually it sold. He will mail check. I’m thrilled.

Weeks go by and no check. By this time, it’s April, I call and am told he thought he had mailed the check but will check and if not it will go out that day. I wait a week and no check. I call back on Monday of this week April 25 and I’m told the check was mailed last week. It’s Friday now, and still no check. I do a little googling and find these reviews.

Apparently, I’m not the only one waiting for a check from this place.

Anyone else have this experience? I have always heard great reviews of Trumbull Mountain and that’s why I sent the saddle to them. I’m concerned about getting money.

Interesting. The two no checks complaints seem to be in a similar time line as your issue. I wonder if they had an employee change or some other issue that is causing a problem that is not being dealt with as well as it should be.

I had the same experience… Saddle was Sold the end of November. Started emailing and calling about the check the end of January… Kept being told they would send the check that week… After several weeks I put a bad review on their Facebook page, as a last resort… They took their Facebook page down and finally sent me a check… Took several emails and calls and finally threatening a lawyer… Will NEVER recommend them or use them again…

There was a similar thread sometime ago (maybe a year or so ago) on this forum for same issue.

I never had an issue buying from them. It was my “go to” shop… I didn’t know about the consignment issues. Very good to know

Yikes, was thinking about listing my saddle with them…probably won’t now.

Complain to the Better Business Bureau, at least you can warn others. Also, if they are in a different state than you, isn’t that interstate commerce fraud? You can go after them legally. Sounds like others have gotten action from legal threats.

Sorry.

Well, at the very least any negative press from this board will show up on Google searches.

I’m sorry you’ve had this experience, OP. I’ve only bought from them and didn’t have any problems, but that was a few years ago.

FWIW their owner is a frequent poster on COTH.

Just checked today’s mail and still no check:no:

Perhaps that will give the owner an incentive to pay up.

That Yellow Pages site says that Trumbell Mountain is an A+ accredited BBB business. I have no idea what that means, but would suggest you file a BBB complaint about them. Maybe BBB will do something, or maybe BBB won’t. I don’t know enough about BBB to know.

The original TM owner passed away a few years ago. I grew up about 30 minutes from the shop. Its common local knowledge that the service has been slipping since then.

I searched this forum and never found anything negative. Can you find the thread? It might be helpful.

You know now that I think about it, I think it was on the UDBB that is was posted. I tried searching here too and couldn’t find anything but I distinctly remember someone posted that it took them several months, phone calls and emails to get their check, with the same scenario you described.

I bought from them years ago and the transaction went fine, but this thread would certainly cause me to hesitate about consigning with them.

Yeah I think it was the old UDBB too. Jay responded on that one.

I tried to file a complaint with the BBB… They said they can’t do anything about it. The most I could do is put a bad review on the BBB website…

Can you send jaybird a PM? She’s been super helpful here on lots of other saddle fitting threads. Hopefully at least she can get a straight answer for you.
