What you just wrote would make it really different in my opinion.
I think it’s mostly gracious of the moderators to let people who admittedly don’t come here, at least not often, have seemingly OT threads here while their’ BB of choice is down. I would like to think that if this BB was down, the courtesy would be returned without posters complaining about server issues that are really non of their concern.

I post mainly on this thread and off course. While I do see some mudslinging…it doesn’t bother me. I want to know peoples’ opinions, but I do realize they are just that: opinions. And that tone often cannot be interpreted appropriately in the written word. And the outpouring of support for people who are ill, in trouble, who have lost family members, freinds or horses…is simply wonderful. Not to mention the Pal Joey types.
I know a few people who post on UDBB. One is a good friend. The others are…well, DQs. Based on that limited sample (1:10 in favor of DQs) I chose to not even lurk there (although I have been directed to posts of interest from my friend).
If what goes on at this bb could be considered hateful and hurtful…wow. This ain’t nothing like what’s out in the real world, baby.

no I wouldn’t hateful or anything like that …but it sure like going to clinic on horsemanship where you have a person or few people demonstrating to a crowded over flowing bleachers full of people and lecturing to them …now this is how it is done…
There are a bunch of people here that are just watching and saying very little… either they have been scared to death to post because of some barking dogs or thinking they would look and not touch

I wouldn’t say that this board gets hateful and hurtful though sometimes I’ve read what seems to me to be gratuitously hostile posturing… but then I’m quite notoriously soppy and a believer that encouragement is worth 10 times what derision is… I do feel that perhaps we all are aware what the real world is like, maybe we just chose to make a corner of it less an agressive bear-pit and more comradely. Not that it is necessarily a bear-pit here; but the real world sometimes can be?

Definately agree the tone on this board is downright aggressive. You can expect no matter what you post someone is going to have a little mud to sling. Personally, I miss UDBB!!

I tend to read this one while between things/printing at work, and post to UDBB while at home. Sometimes, I do have to stop reading as it gets nasty and rude and I find myself getting into a surly little mood (smilie with ears folded back), so I need to go wash my own chakras! Or else it spills over into the real world. Happens on UDBB sometimes too, although with less frequency. On UDBB, you can get told straight up how it is, but then someone will help you with fixing it up, rather than someone straight out calling you an idiot. On both, though, there reside folks who need sometimes to hear it straight up! Just here, it tends to happen faster. I have never been hacked on over here, but maybe I just don’t have very interesting opinions! Ha! Little do you know whats whirling around my head!
What I am most impressed with, though, is that I have been lurking and sometimes posting here two years, or so, and clanter came in and completely whomped past my posting total in about an hour! Thats OK, though, I have been on UDBB since USDF, under a couple of different names (lost email due to moving and not quick enough to fix it right), and even if I were to count those “old” posts, he wiped me out there, too! Go clanter! It is my own fault, I am now up to six horses here, and am too tired to think…
Utah we have 12 head now since daughter got her brithday pony …told her she would get one when she asked ,she was three then I think…so it took until she was 20 to get her little pony…couldn’t find one that was safe…Charlie is cute little thing about 50 inch…

12, that is nice…I am one person since dumping the non-working husband, so they are all mine to work and care for. Send me one of your children! Although, I am sort of getting the neighbor kid trained in, by the time she gets this figured out and up to speed, it’ll be time for school to start. Actually, before that too, as why would he give up his afternoon bubble bath to help out? But there were fewer of them here then…Borderline surliness can be useful, though, I have found that the pile of stuff he still hasn’t picked up nearly one year later gets smaller all the time (a bunch went to my parents house to be SOLD this weekend!)
One needs to have an ad put out on him, he was bought for resale and is still here nearly a year later…but he has such pretty long gray lashes…sigh, the time has come.
The thought did cross my mind to mention that some of the absolutly BEST, most helpful posts- the kind I print out to keep- have come from here, not related to training, but to real life, supportive issues- losing a horse, retiring a horse, knowing when to give up or not. And they seem to pop up just when I need them!
the difference
On COTH there are folks whose posts I am curious to read, but no one I am dying to meet.
On UDB, there are hundreds of posters I have warm fuzzy feelings for, I have met in person several other addicts, and have developed friendship with a few, on and off the board. I always feel like I could map my trip around the world and would be welcomed in every state of the US and many a continent - as I feel my San Francisco door is open to any UDBer that wants to stop by and visit.
I do not feel that cozy with my COTHER aquaintances.
I visit COTH a bit like I would the library. I visit the UDB like I would the family weekend home, where all my friends are invited and I know besides discussing the “issues of the day”, there is always a friendly ear, pat, or recipe to help out.
