UPDATE #2 - Orphan Foal: Last Video, Last Post.

YAY!!! I’m so happy for Annie, but also for the mare! A silver lining for 2 sad events… Best wishes to all, and some rest for you!
Well done

Fingers crossed…what a pretty mama too. Hope it works out for both of them!

Way to go. Wynn, my thoughts are with you and little Annie and her new mommy tonite. I have been there and done this and am so proud of you for trying this.
May we ask who the mare is? She looks like a saint.

Oh, she is beautiful! They look like a perfect match and I so hope it works out for you, little Annie, and the adoptive mom. Good luck!

That’s what I was thinking! Beautiful girl and I love the blinker idea.

Hope it goes well. Was that the mare from the craigslist post?

Ta-da!

OMGosh that was beautiful!! Please post more videos and tell us the whole story!

Such good news. Once you get caught up on your sleep, we need details. Lovely mare and the blinkers are a great idea.

Good luck,
Nancy!

Lovely foster mom! And the filly is lovely! How super that it looks to be working out so well now, though very sad to lose your mare and this mare’s newborn. Lots of jingles that this is all good!

Great news!!! I hope it is all going smoothly!!!

That is so great!!!

What a beautiful mare - best of luck to both of them Wynn.
It’s good when some good can come out of so much sadness.

It’s really great when the mare owner (who lost a foal) offers up their mare to help an orphan. Kudos to that owner!

Yes, the mare was from Craiglist (BIG THANK YOU to the person who posted about that!). Her name is something like “Big Red Champ.” She is a 10-year-old Thoroughbred who has been used to produce yearling sales prospects. She leaves on Monday to be bred to a hot young stallion her owners were very crafty to win a less expensive breeding to through a silent auction (Great story: everyone at the auction was try to win an even hotter young stallion and were so busy trying to get their bids in that by the time they called that one, it was too late to bid on the other! So, it’s nice that Red’s folks got a good deal to help with their own heartbreak.)

OK, folks. I’m signing off now. Here is the last video, but have the kleenex ready because it’s so sweet, it could make you cry (it sure made me cry): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KlQRHEARcAg.

How wonderful!!! I am so happy to see the direction things have turned around for little Annie  Great job to everyone and what a beautiful and kind mare she is.

What a comforting and sweet update!

She leaves on Monday??? You mean you only have her for the weekend? I am just wondering how helpful it is to have the two bond and then separate them after a few days? Will she be back? Are you going back to bottle/bucket feeding Annie? I just don’t really understand the benefits of a nurse mare for a couple of days? Educate me.

Usually mares are bred back on their foal heat and if the stallion is other than where the mare foaled out, she AND her baby travel to the stallion station.

yes, I know that mare and baby usually travel together or… that’s when a nurse mare is called for. BUT pwynn never said Annie was leaving with her… hence the question!
