Update-my horse's tail is gone now.

Texas Equine is wonderful…your big guy is in good hands with Dr. Honnas. I’ve used him several times and he is very thorough. Love me some drafties, so jingling for a full and speedy recovery!

Thinking of you and Ollie and hoping for a positive update!

Ollie update: the surgery went as well as could be expected. Dr. Honnas said of what’s left of his tail: “Short enough to be interesting, long enough to cover the subject.” And in true Ollie fashion, he already asked for and received food.

That’s great to hear! I’m sure both you and him will adjust lol makes me think of the teamsters with bob tails. I enjoy your blog btw hehe

Yay Ollie! I’m sure he will rock his new look

He is apparently still doing well today, as of this morning! Love vets who proactively give updates before I can even ask.

Great news,very relieved for you.

Get well soon Ollie!

So relieved that all has gone well. I’m a huge supporter of Ollie’s from the PNW, having had an amazing draft cross myself. Thank goodness it was something operable. Good luck to you both!

How did I miss this first time around? I have three greys - THREE! - devil spawn the lot of them. So grey horse + cancer = very real worry. Love your blog - looking forwards to seeing the Minimal-Tailed Ollie. Until then, I’ll keep running my hands under three grey docks daily, and freaking out the neighbours of course (“OMG what ARE you doing???111!!!”)

He is so handsome…
And will be equally so without a tail.
Sounds like quite the character, Better no tail than no horse!
You must post pics of him full rear view once his stump has healed.
So glad all went well.

Thank you for all the kind thoughts! I have confidence he will continue to heal well- he’s always been a happy healer from injury, plus I have been saying that he’s truly too stubborn to allow things to go wrong  Right now, his biggest concern is lack of grass and room to move around. I am guessing he’s pretty pissed about it, really. Because he’s clearly starving.

I will definitely be posting photos as he heals. It’s not too often you see a tailless horse, after all! Even Dr. Honnas in his long career - and even with all his years at Texas A&M teaching - said he had only done about a dozen tail amputations.

I also might get a giant pink fake tail for sometimes-funsies to make him a My Little Pony.[/QUOTE]

Rainbow w. sparkles is sure to do wonders for flies

maybe take up driving, too. If other horses laugh, he can say tail needs to be short for his multiple mad skills.

I bet he’d be awesome at driving.

So I heard again from Dr. Honnas, and Ollie will be OK to come home tomorrow!!! He’s doing great. So long as I have a ride to go get him, I will have Big Lug back with me tomorrow evening.

That is great news.

OK, now I have definite transport. So happy  He will get 1,000 carrots.

So glad to hear that Ollie has a good prognosis. Count me in for happily awaiting photos of “obnoxious bow”!

And if he turns out to have a cute pom-pom tail like so, that would be quite adorbs. http://www.snarkyrider.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/09/draft-tail.jpg

Yay!! So happy! He will be such a cutie patootie with his little bob lol

That is wonderful! I came back on here just now to see this news. Cannot wait to see pics of him. Sans tail. From your description of his personality he sounds like quite the character. Again, Very happy for you!

I just picked him up. OMG you guys, I took a video of him “wagging” his nubbin. It looks like a happy cocker spaniel. Lol. Can’t wait to share it.

He was totally chill.
