Update-my horse's tail is gone now.
I just picked him up. OMG you guys, I took a video of him “wagging” his nubbin. It looks like a happy cocker spaniel. Lol. Can’t wait to share it.

He was totally chill.
So glad to hear he is doing well and on his way home. I saw a horse at a show a couple of weeks ago with a short stump of a tail and it didn’t look odd at all. The horse was bay, so I’m wondering what circumstances made it tail-less.

I worked with a black/bay broodmare who was tail-less. She was a racehorse, I think it was some sort of tail caught in the starting gate. Either way tail got cut, infected and a tail bandage was left on to tight. End story her tail was cut off. Always felt bad for her with the flies. She got by with other mares swishing her and her own foal to a point.

Glad to hear that Ollie is home!!

So here are a few photos- and the nubbin wagging video

So glad he’s doing so well!

I guess his nub is going to give him a little extra character wherever he goes

ETA: CUTEST NUB EVER!

Like he needed extra character! ;).

But the nubbin wagging SLAYED me.

seriously, laughed so hard I cried. Fantastic.

I mean… he’s gotta have enough character to pull off a nub in the first place right? lol

Aw that is a tiny like nub.

Did you have to ask for the tail hair? Any plans for it?

P.

I do have his tail hair in my possession- I asked that they save it for me, but they said that had already set it aside. Don’t know what I’m gonna do with it yet!

Yeah… Between his giant head, neck and butt, and overall silly personality-- and now the nubbin-- no one is going to be able to forget him  I’m going for MAJOR dressage sympathy points.

OMG! That is beyond adorable. He has so much personality, it makes him even cuter!

Plus, think of all the horse hair jewelry/pottery/fly swatters you can make, with plenty left over! Or you could sell it to a tail maker and be RICH!!! (ok, rich might be a slight exaggeration)

Well really, was there ever a question!

Splendid update

He looks absolutely adorable.

Yes. Waaay adorbs! Trim off the longer hairs and he’ll have a Pom Pom Butt.

Hackney Ponies over 50" have their tails docked … he will be fine !

Hackney Ponies over a certain measurement have their tails docked …

This will be fine … let the hair grow for fly removal help … it will grow longer than one might think.

Think of the Clydes … they have docked tails !

He looks mighty fine to me !

I was worried it was going to look like a boxer’s docked tail, SO happy to see he still has some hair! It’s cute. Also glad to know you kept his hair. I see numerous bracelets, and necklaces

Awww! I wish I could see the video–I get a “this video is corrupt” message when I try to open it.

I knew a little mare with about that much tail years and years ago. She’d gotten it stuck somewhere and it had broken. It festered before her owner had noticed and had to be removed.

Her tail grew to about her stifle or so, and she wasn’t a “hair” horse. I think she was Quarab, maybe? But she certainly had enough to swish some flies and wasn’t the worse for it

Aww, he looks adorable!

My horse had to have an eye removed about a week ago. It is taking some time for me to get used to, but he is managing it well. I’m sure it’s weird to look at your horse with no tail, but your boy will be happy without that ugly tumor and will love everyone fawning over his little nubbin.

He is truly adorable! I would likely have a fake tail made with the leftover hair.

Or you can take enough for a bracelet for yourself and sell the rest to the tail makers. Grey hair goes for quite a decent buck.

Aww. Glad things are going well for Ollie. To (both) your health!

You should look into having Ida make you some vases with some of the tail! She only needs a little bit. I had several made when my heart horse passed away and they are simply beautiful.
