US Vendor for Bomber Bits (and another question)?

Young mare has a strong preference for the Bomber ported barrel. Second up is the Verbindend. I can only conclude she likes 1) shaped mouthpieces and 2) small or locking center lozenges.

I hate switching bits between bridles frequently, so I’m looking to get a few more bits that fall in her “acceptable” range.

First question: Are there any good US vendors of Bomber bits that have a full selection of size and thicknesses? I’d like to get a couple different cheekpieces of the Bomber ported, but have always ended up importing Bombers because I couldn’t find a US vendor.

Second question: Anything similar to a ported Bomber that doesn’t have quite the hefty price tag? I was looking at Myler level 2 and level 3 bits and they look “similar” but they’re still quite pricey.

Thanks in advance!

Unfortunately none of those have the make/model I need, unless I missed it.

I’m looking for a ported, with the barrel center piece.

I’m not paying for it too.

None of those are even Bomber bits, they’re Centaur… and none look similar to the Bomber bit in question.

Maybe my OP is unclear… I’m looking for a BOMBER BIT or one that is similar to it. Bomber is the brand. A barrel is a piece on the center that prevents the bit from folding all the way down.

I’ve searched for a US retailer, but have had no luck finding one that carries the models that I’m interested in. @Equibrit while I appreciate your attempt, you’re finding the same struggle as I am (even though you don’t know it, and are trying to be a smarta… about it ).

The US vendors carry just a handful of the Bomber models. If someone knows of a US vendor that carries them all, please chime in. Else I might still have to import.

Thanks!

Here is the mouthpiece on the bit in question.

Something like this might work? https://www.statelinetack.com/item/metalab-ported-barrel-loose-ring-bit-14mm/E029941/

If you need the Bomber one specifically I found it is almost always cheaper to buy it overseas.

I’ve purchased several Bomber bits from them. Great service - they even called me once to confirm an order because I had ordered a freakishly large size (for a freakishly large headed equine).

Oh that is super close. I wonder - are those guard “tubes” legal in dressage?

They have them! I’ll have to email to ask what thickness the mouthpiece is, but that’s the closest so far. Thank you!

Ya think ?

Doesn’t seem like anyone else had such a hard time, but you’ve got a thing for making smartalec comments on my threads, so carry on if it makes you feel better. XOXO.

In terms of dressage legality, I’d be more concerned about the height of the port. take a look at the bottom of page 19 https://www.usef.org/forms-pubs/96D17lSsaCo/annex---bits-saddlery-equipment

Oh wow. The bomber ported is illegal. Thank you x a million for letting me know, I had no idea. I could have sworn I read that that bit was now legal, but clearly I read wrong.

Thank you again. The search continues for a legal bit she likes.

How are they saying this is a 30mm port? I’m measuring 20mm

No lozenge, but I really lucked out that my fussy horse loves this bit:

I love the price tag and the fact that it is dressage legal. It also comes in a D ring and maybe a few other styles. My only complaint is in a humid climate, the blue alloy will become a rough rust. For $20, I just replace the bit when it gets too rusty. Oiling it after use helps.

I sent USEF an email asking how they measure. I have a happy tongue at home too, which is listed as legal for a snaffle. I can pretty much guarantee that that port is as big or bigger than the barrel ported.

I’ll be curious how they describe their measurement technique.

Edit: I also had a bomber blue bit which is listed as legal but has a huge port, but I’m pretty sure I sold it. I’ll have to check when I’m back at home.

Talk about unclear OPs – when I saw this thread title I thought it belonged in the Current Events forum.
After I got over my initial “NOW what?!” reaction lol

One of these is legal, one is not. I’m curious as to their reply about how they measure. Nothing back so far.
