What did Grace not do?

I didn’t see that Grace failed to execute the test- I saw her as having an error in the counter canter and a smaller error in the halt (executed imperfectly but executed) just as Zayna had an error in the trot and a smaller error in the hand gallop (executed imperfectly in that she slowed down at the jump.)

She landed the second counter canter but then swapped off it and was pretty late getting it back.

Again, I wonder if this is related to having three judges, instead of the usual two judges.

Grace also didn’t do the halt all that well. It was more of a halt than Skylar’s, but not by all that much.

I did once. And I felt like that one was politically driven. Certain BNT’s rider did made an odd choice on an option fence, then didn’t move up enough in the first work off. But there was a pretty clear winner after the first work off. This was a county-level medal that was very competitive at the time—you’d see riders come back from Medal/Maclay finals to do it.

I am more bothered by this than I was when Jordan Allen was 2nd and, IMO, was the CLEAR winner. And I was pretty bothered by that.

Well, she moved up a TON after the first round. So if Grace had a big enough lead going in to the test, then this 2nd work off is not unfair at all…

For that matter, I cursed them both by saying that I wasn’t expecting them to melt and fall over and then they both had a big ol’ womp, sadly.

I would say crashing through a jump is probably worse than bobbling a counter canter, but we’ll find out.

IMO the judges really bungled this with the retest. You had 4 riders that came into the test and had a clear winner.

Now you have a retest with two major mistakes and have to split hairs. What did this accomplish?

Agreed wholeheartedly. And 2 excellent horses had to jump more jumps and have kind of rough gos … why, exactly?
