The issue with apostrophes and ampersands has been reported to the developers. I haven’t heard back yet, so please hang tight!
So I was logged in this morning and just now when I came back to my computer someone called “Darkwave” was logged in!!! I’m the only one at my house that uses COTH. This is worrisome! I’m running my spyware right now.
We had another report of a log-in issue like this earlier. It’s the number one issue they’re investigating, and I’ll forward your information to them right now.
Thank you for reporting it!
Yes - I really AM Wicky, but it says I am Robin2…
@Wicky I logged you out of the @Robin account. What happens when you log back in? You may need to log out of the main site too if you’re logged in there.
I reported that this is still a problem to the developers.
I still have a 1 after my name, no access to CE and OT. Also avatar is blank.
I have the 1 still, as well.
Still sad with a 1, and also no access to OT and CE.
The developers went through and fixed another batch of around 20 accounts with email conflicts that caused ussername/account glitches, and they are working on and will be deploying another fix for the issue on Monday.
They’ll be going through and cleaning up other “username1” issue accounts over the next couple of days.
If there are any other issues with alter or Secret Santa elf accounts taking over as your main account, please let me know…or of course any other issues!
I believe anyone who has contacted us through this thread or, who I have emailed with privately, regarding log-in issues, should now be resolved.
Here’s an update from the developers on log in issues. The issue with users having new accounts made with a “1” after their username, due to email conflicts in our databases has been fixed. Affected accounts should be fixed and it should be resolved going forward.
They’re working on identifying the rare and alarming log-in mix up issue that has affected a few users during isolated log-in events:
Regarding this login mix up, we’ve contacted the cloud server stack support where we host our forum. They’ve informed us that they’re trying to investigate and reproduce this issue so they can provide a fix for it. It is most likely happening due to some server configuration. Meanwhile we’re working to build a handler which will trigger and log details if it detects an incorrect user session change in the forum. This will give us more clues as to what the root cause of this. Will keep you posted.
Hmm, I still have the 1 after my name. Is there anything I need to do? I tried logging out and back in with no change.
I’ll let them know! You shouldn’t have to do anything. Thanks!
I am not sure how rare the logged in as someone else issue is… it happened to me this morning as well. (This is Lucassb, longtime COTH user, and the system has me logged in as someone named Arelle and will not let me correct it.) Not clear to me how much of my account is potentially compromised but it is pretty concerning.
This is actually RL - I logged out of all sessions hoping that will fix this issue; and I tried to change my password but couldn’t figure out where in the new system.
While I’m glad @Lucassb it was you as a long time user and not some random person, I’m very concerned at my privacy with the forum upgrades @Moderator_1.
I am glad you were able to log out, Arelle. My account looks to be logged in correctly now as Lucassb (how, I am not sure, as I did not log in personally… which means my credentials were either driven by an internal system or by someone else on my behalf.)
It’s unclear to me whether that really fixes things at the root of the problem (as I was logged in as myself yesterday and did not log out or change anything between then and this morning when I showed up logged in with YOUR account.
I logged out of all other sessions. What’s odd is that you were able to be logged in as me while I was simultaneously logged in at my house. It’s not as if I was inactive or hadn’t logged in for ages. It’s very bizarre to get a notification you have a post reply when you haven’t posted.
The forum pulls your login credentials from the main Chronicle website. You click “login” here, and it goes and fetches the credentials from there. The rare issue that you saw today is separate from the single sign on utility that does that. There are some details about the nitty gritty of it in the long feedback thread…I can’t quite recall all it it, but it’s there if you’re curious Look for posts by mod1 toward the end of the thread.
Glad you are back to you!
Except I did not click login; yesterday I was logged in as myself and everything was normal. That login should have either persisted or logged me out. Instead I showed up this morning logged in as someone else. And apparently @Arelle was ALSO logged in here at the same time.
Yep. That’s the problem that’s being investigated, and what’s not behaving as it should, at all.
