Very premature foal

I truly believe that if the owner didn’t have deep pockets, this would not be happening.

The vast majority of horse owners are in no financial position to continue trying to “save” this poor animal; I can’t even conceive of how much money has been spent already.

They say “no foot, no horse.” What about “no functioning legs, no horse?”

Devil’s Advocate here
Like any animal, & especially a case like Seven, he doesn’t know any other kind of life.
Nothing to compare to his daily life now.
It’s like agonizing over euth when the animal has no concept of Future.
I’m not saying Seven should be kept alive.
Even if I had the money KVS obviously does, I think I’d have let this baby go after the miraculous bone growth in his joints didn’t normalize his progress a lot sooner.
Vets may have very well advised euth as an option, but if owner refuses to consider it they can’t overrule further treatment requested.
Seven’s case may provide answers for future, but IIWM, I wouldn’t have gone this far.

I’m haunted by his sweet face and mangled body.

Would there be torque on his spine & shoulders because of his malfunctioning legs? From experience I know how my horses go “ahhh” when the Chiro vet finds the sore area and then they return to normal. I’m hard pressed to nod in agreement with the consensus “Seven’s not in pain”. If not pain he must be uncomfortable. :persevere:

As he grows I only see compounding problems but I’m prepared to be proven wrong.

I haven’t been keeping up with the videos since I find them a bit sad, but the most recent one wasn’t as bad as I feared. He seems to be moving his legs a bit more normally and the lf isn’t buckling as bad as before. But his back just isn’t normal. I hope at some point they can maybe do some chiro to get it moving a bit more freely, which will translate to his limbs.

TikTok won’t let me view w/o downloading the app :expressionless:
Sometimes I can, sometimes (like this) not :worried:

Can you summarize?

I agree, that’s the best video I’ve seen of him.

No chiro work is going to fix or relieve this, though. Those back legs and those hock angles (or lack thereof) are here to stay.

Agree. I’m left to wonder how his growth will affect him, since as he gains weight and gets bigger he will be putting more strain on those questionably conformed joints.

I’m relieved that they are castrating him.

I don’t think there was ever even a thought of not castrating that colt.

Honestly I don’t even know why they would put him through yet another procedure. I don’t think this poor baby is going to reach maturity.

Holy hell. His legs can’t even bend when they aren’t weight bearing.

I wish someone would end the torture experiment.

How is this going to go well the larger he gets?

There is no quality of life ahead, it is not fair to keep any animal in this condition.

I am continually disgusted by this. This should not be happening, much less glorified. Yuck, humanity.

Holly hell. That just infuriates me that no one is looking out for his well being.

Is there a video of him getting up and lying down? How much time does he spend on the ground? Can he trot?

I admittedly skip through a lot of the videos because they flip my stomach over. Not sure if they showed him getting up, though they do claim he does it on his own.

I’ve not seen any attempt at a trot. They’ve started putting him in their deep arena footing, and it takes him probably 45-60 seconds for every two steps forward. He dances his back end around trying to figure out what to do, then manages a couple steps. Rinse repeat.

That first video is really tough to watch. I see what you mean. The vet said he was going over ground poles? Seriously?
