Very premature foal

They said they actively get him up standing if he hasn’t gotten up in 2 hours, if I remember correctly. That was disturbing to me.
What are they going to do when he gets too big to lift up? Put him in sling? SMH. They’re still not looking at this long term, or don’t want to admit the inevitability of his situation.

Believe it when I see it. He could hardly get through that footing.

Thanks, but again I’m unable to view the vids.
Clicking on Play takes me to the App Store & NTYVM to downloading TikTok.
From the replies above, probably better I can’t see the “progress”.
This is definitely becoming a downhill slide for that poor baby :sleepy:
I’m thinking less of KVS for not seeing the Reality.

I agree with every word you are saying. It is TRULY DISGUSTING this is still going on. How about if he isn’t getting up after 2 hours, let him rest forever. How on earth is this still going on while he is surrounded by professionals and his owner is letting this continue.

I had to enlarge this photo to see what I was looking at and even then it took a few seconds for my brain to register the fact that I was looking at a horse’s hind legs. This is just so, so wrong

Reminding me of Ashley Watts, in a whole nuther style. Sick and sooooo cruel.

I can’t see them on my phone because it wants me to download the app, but I can see it on my computer.

I just briefly watched on of the vid’s posted. close up of his face…his eyes are dead inside. I know I shouldn’t have looked.

This is one long torturous experiment.

Those hind legs with the built up shoes. Ugh. Like inflexible stilts.

So the poor creature has to be physically roused to get up if he’s recumbent for more than 2 hours? Hasn’t anyone considered why he wants to just lie the heck down so much?

Good lord.

Remember he isn’t on any pain meds. They were bragging about it.

It must be physically exhausting and mentally overwhelming trying to navigate the world with those misshapen legs with fused joints. I can understand why he lies down so much. He might not be on pain meds, but that doesn’t mean he isn’t perceiving pain in his little horsie brain.

Then there’s the image of him lying on the grass with the owner saying, “He likes to take naps.”

I’m disappointed in what has been portrayed as “physical therapy”. I’m an occupational therapist with plenty of hours in co-treatment with physical therapists of pediatric clients, this OT/PT team would be following research based frame’s of reference (developmental, biomechanical, splinting and orthotics, sensory integration, neuromuscular re-education, etc.) to develop a treatment plan and implement interventions. Several of which seem easily transferable to a developing foal. Following a medical model, it would be difficult to establish a baseline pain level. I can’t see how you can ignore the pain signs that he often exhibits or they announce. This case has become increasingly difficult to stomach.

As an aside, the vet hospital is receiving donations in connection with this case, it serves them :money_with_wings:well to have this foal doing “ok”.

Actively getting a large animal up is not lifting a large animal. They are two different things.

I think if you go back you’ll see that the vet means they need to encourage him to get up, not that they actually lift him at this point.

And there are ways of lifting large animals that don’t involve slings

And that said, ugh, I am actually not as torn as I was. I was somewhat siding with the learn as much as possible from this poor creature while keeping him as comfy as possible. Now, I’m more on the side of wishing him a merciful end, because wtaf is going to be learned that will be super useful to Joe horse or even Joe fancy horse down the road?

Still slightly torn because maybe I just don’t understand the depth of useful knowledge that may be getting gleaned from this case.

At this point I’m seeing him as a cash cow. The hospital is getting donations for their research, and KVS gets $$$ per view on each video.
Enough is enough. There are worse things than a humane passing.

Edit because I forgot Katie is also making money off her 7 merch. I can only imagine the outcry if she does decide to euth

This recent video was the first time I caught that. It left a bad taste in my mouth, to be honest. Maybe I’m just super cynical, but it makes me believe that as long as the vets have convinced themselves that 7 is comfortable, and KVS keeps paying her bills, they can continue to experiment on him so they can “learn” and write research papers. In the meantime, they’re getting donations generated by the colt’s miserable existence.

It reminds me of rescues parading pictures of severely compromised animals to beg for money. Keep them breathing to get the money.

Repeat after me people

“Just because we can doesn’t mean we should”

And that’s all I have to say about that.

I actually was discussing Seven with my vet yesterday. She is horrified that this foal is being put through this, as am I.

There comes a time when death is the kinder option. I look at this foal’s treatment as one big experiment on a live animal.

What quality of life has he experienced and what will his quality of life be in the future?

Agree completely. It’s heartbreaking.
