Veterinarian Proudly Shows Off Cat She Killed

So, the cat wasn’t even missing for 2 days after all:

“The cat that was killed with a bow and arrow is believed to be Tiger, a 6-year-old orange Tabby. Tiger went missing Wednesday. Kristen Lindsey posted the picture of the arrow through Tiger’s head at 8:48 p.m. Wednesday night.”

While I don’t agree that killing cats is just what goes on in the country, I am also not a fan of people from out of state calling the vet clinic and harassing the staff. The vet in question was fired today yet that did not keep people from continuing to call the clinic. [/QUOTE]

I’m not surprised that people called even after the vet was fired and probably will continue to call because they don’t read. Look at post #11. It had already been stated that the vet was fired, yet post #11 is staying they hope the vet is fired.

I am not blaming the clinic - exactly. Nor am I making ‘unfounded accusations.’ I am pointing out that this sort of behavior is very often REPEATED behavior. Things like this are rarely a one-off. Especially when she apparently posted on her FB page that her hobbies include ‘killing things (animals).’

Well the Dean of the College of Veterinary Medicine and Biomedical Sciences at Colorado State has now publically spoken out against Lindsey. http://www.kbtx.com/home/headlines/CSU-Not-Supporting-Brenham-Vet-at-Center-of-Cat-Controversy-300573791.html

Just waiting to hear from who every is in charge of veterinary licenses in Texas (and any other state she might be licensed to practice in along with the AVMA.

That quote is from her old blog that someone found (see how information gets twisted around?) My guess is her blog (from 2011) is referencing hunting. She did grow up in Wyoming. I guarantee you she grew up hunting with her family. Bad choice of words in light of the current situation but the last entry in the blog was Feb 2011.

Insinuating that she did horrible things in a professional capacity is making unfounded accusations. There has been ZERO indication that she did anything inappropriate in an official capacity as a vet at the clinic. I have interacted with her on multiple occasions and had absolutely no issues with her conduct towards me or my animals. This is a small town. Trust me, it would get around quickly if people thought she had mistreated animals at the clinic.

I am in no way defending her or what she did. It was horrific and she deserves what she gets. But, trying to call into question the care of animals at the clinic when you have never met her, haven’t met any other vet at the clinic and have no idea how they run their business is just wrong.

One things I have learned from this is not to jump into an internet witch hunt when I have no personal knowledge of the situation. I understand the outrage but trust me, local people are outraged enough to take care of the situation. There has been SO MUCH misinformation spread as fact by people that live out of the area and out of state. My vet had to take their Facebook page down because people were repeatedly questioning whether she was really fired since she was the clinic owner’s daughter-in-law. People were also demanding that Dr. Keri Camp who posted a comment on the Facebook photo be fired. Only problem is that she is NOT the daughter-in-law of the clinic owner (there is more than one Kristin in the world) and Dr. Keri Camp works at a vet clinic in MISSISSIPPI. But, hey, that didn’t stop people from continually posting harassing comments. And unfortunately, their phone will probably still be ringing on Monday. When I was there on Friday and brought cupcakes with me, the girl at the desk almost cried. I need to call on Monday to see if I can bring a mare in to get her stifles injected on Wednesday - hope I can get through in between all the phone calls from people out of the area that feel the need to yell at people that had nothing to do with this.

Again, end of rant but it really does infuriate me that people continue to harass the clinic and make statements that at best imply patients have been mistreated.

Ugh

From the link:

Dr. Kristen Lindsey, DVM posted a picture on her Facebook page of her holding an arrow that is sticking through the head of a dead cat. The post read “My first bow kill, lol. The only good feral tomcat is one with an arrow through it’s head! Vet of the year award … Gladly accepted.”

The post quickly went viral and prompted numerous calls to the Brenham Police Department and Washington County Animal Control.

Brenham police say the cat was shot in Austin County. The Austin County Sheriff’s Office tells News 3 they are investigating. Sheriff Jack Brandes says he sent deputies out to New Wehdem Road Friday morning where the incident occurred.

Lindsey works for the Washington Animal Clinic in Brenham. In the comment section of her post, she wrote “no I did not lose my job. Lol. Psshh. Like someone would get rid of me. I’m awesome!”

This is officially the first thread I’ve ever unsubscribed to. This is so upsetting, I have to try to get it out of my head. I think of the thousands I have spent trying to heal my cats over the years and the wonderful, caring, above-and-beyond vets who tried to help and held my hand while euthing 3 wonderful cats… and then I think that this person is also a vet and was allowed to touch other people’s animals… and it just makes me SICK.

That comment was made BEFORE she got fired. Shows what an idiot she was. She actually thought nothing would happen to her. Her cavalier attitude towards it all is sickening.

Once they found out about what she did, they terminated her. SHE HAS BEEN FIRED.

Why didn’t you post this from the link you quoted? It was the 2nd update of the story, right above what you put in your post and bolded.

12:00 p.m. UPDATE: The Washington Animal Clinic in Brenham has fired the veterinarian who bragged about killing a cat with a bow and arrow.

The story reads bottom to top, by the way. The most recent information is on top. What you put in your post was the very original story before anyone followed up and found out what was going on.

inca – I KNOW she has been fired and that the article was chronological from most recent to oldest information. I hope anyone following this thread knows she has been fired and that the clinic where she worked lambasted her in the strongest manner, as did the CSU Veterinary School and the Texas Veterinary Association. I was merely pointing out what she said BEFORE she was fired. Sorry if it misled anyone.

Oh, okay - since you bolded it with no explanation, I thought you were posting that she had not been fired. And I am afraid others would think that as well.

Yes, she was supremely confident, perhaps borderline narcissistic. If she has not already been, she will be humbled by the time this is all over. Hopefully she learns some valuable lessons from this horrific act and its ramifications.

I can’t begin to tell you how shocked I was to see this on my Facebook feed (a friend posted it - I was not Facebook friends with Dr. Lindsey) Friday morning. I couldn’t believe I was looking at someone that had treated my horses and had been to my place twice in just the past month! Just goes to show that you never really know what people are really like…

NP inca

I hope she is able to resurrect her career somehow. It sounds like she was a very competent equine vet, and we can’t have too many of them around.

She isn’t the first person to make a horrible career mistake and certainly won’t be the last.

This isn’t a horrible career mistake. It’s a horrible character mistake. This would be shocking and disgusting if it was done by anybody, even the uneducated backways horrible drunk idiot of a neighbor. The fact that she is a vet in a profession where she took an oath to prevent suffering and is bragging about this?? Just absolutely disgusting. She doesn’t need to be in the veterinary field ever again.

And I suspect (and hope I’m wrong) that she may not be humbled by this. I’m afraid she’s the type to blame everybody else for “blowing it out of proportion” and making a big deal about nothing just because a bunch of crazy cat ladies got their panties in a bunch. I think it won’t be for years to come that she really takes that hard long look in the mirror. Sad really. The hardest thing to do is self-reflect on our flaws, and it certainly seems like she has a couple big ones to come to terms with.

Yes. Bad character. Bad attitude. Incorrigible. Bad vet.

Do I understand that she had a steel jaw trap set in her yard? Regardless, she is a person without merit and I would not use a vet that hired her after this is known.

Horrible, horrible person and I am really happy to see that others are taking it seriously.

Hundreds of people drowned in the Mediterranean this weekend while attempting to flee political instability and systemic poverty – just one of innumerable tragedies that fail to even register on our collective radar.

But someone shoots a cat – which for all we know was injured beyond hope in a trap that it strayed upon – and in incredibly poor taste posts the photo on Facebook for the world to see and intelligent, educated adults Just. Cannot. Even. Deal.

Ooooookay.

I’d also question how much it would really serve the collective good for her veterinary education and abilities to go to waste while she wiles away her life as a cashier at Burger Barn. It seems like supervised community service working at a shelter or low-cost clinic would be more appropriate, but hey, as long as righteous indignation is satisfied all around…

I don’t know for a fact about the steel jaw trap. However, it does appear in the picture (not all places are showing the entire picture) that the poor cat’s leg is severed. I am not sure if that means it was caught in the trap and then she shot it. It’s actually so horrible that I don’t really want to think about it. Really, really awful. It is still difficult to understand how someone who went through 4 years of vet school could do such a thing.

So since bad things (that are clearly much worse than this) happen in the world, people can’t/shoulnd’t care about this? You know, it’s okay to be upset about more than one thing that is going on. And this probably hits more “close to home” for people (especially me since she worked for the vet I use and I live in this community!) and maybe feels like something they can “do something about.”

Now, I still don’t understand why people in say, Massachusetts, feel the need to post hateful comments on the clinic’s Facebook page and/or call the clinic to yell at whatever person answers the phone. But, I certainly do understand people being upset at the situation in general.

You’re correct. Poor choice of words on my part.

Count me in as one who would prefer she not practice veterinary medicine again. Sure, we can always use more large animal vets, but I don’t think they should be the same people that are shooting down cats with bows. Vets help animals, they care for them, they cure them. They do not torture them. Once you cross the “animal torture” threshold, you can’t really come back. I do hope they strip her of her license. For her sake, I hope she finds a nice boy t marry soon so she can change that name. The internet never forgets.

As for the part about her not better serving the world flipping burgers or whatever- she very likely has a bachelor’s in biology or at very least a minor in it. There are many jobs available to her that don’t include her interacting with animals. Hell, she can get an emergency cert and teach in the public schools. She’s not going to be relegated to minimum wage for the rest of her life.

My first bow kill, lol. The only good feral tomcat is one with an arrow through it’s head!

If accurate, this quote makes the inevitable rationalization/speculation (maybe the cat was feral and had an endangered songbird in its rabid jaws and was already dying in a trap anyway etc.) a bit moot. It’s horrific and I’m with those who believe she deserves to lose her license over it.
