Victoria Colvin and Clearway

Saw at LP that Tori was riding Heritage’s Clearway. Also noticed that she is riding him in the Hunterdon Cup tomorrow at Junior Hunter Finals. Is she leasing him or did she purchase him? What happened with Stallone VDL and Patrick?

Betsee bought him. They also have Stallone and Patrick. Nice for Tori to have 3 excellent eq mounts.

I’m sad for Caitlin Boyle, though, she and Clearway were becoming such a great pair and I think this is her last junior year. :frowning:

I noticed on the Hunterdon order of go, Heritage Farm is still listed as the owner. Is there a chance she is leasing him instead?

Wow. Can you imagine the price tag?!? I can’t imagine Andre parting with that horse easily!

If the owner is still listed as Heritage Farm, it might just be because the paperwork has not finished going through USEF.

and yes, sad for Caitlin as they did look great.

At this point, I can’t imagine Tori needing to lease anything.

Wow, I’m really sad for Caitlin. To have last year’s winner taken away from you after doing so well at Devon-- ouch. And to someone who has 2 other top horses available, too.

It would have to be an offer so big he couldn’t refuse. When you figure out how much that horse can earn per season being leased, and how many years they expect he would last, (isn’t he relatively young?), it must be an astronomical amount.

I do think, in the horse world, there is a price for everything. At some point, just about everyone will bite.

Looks like Tori and Betsee have figured out how to manage rigor of the equitation ranks, buy three top eq horses! At least none of them will be overworked…

I too feel bad for Caitlin, but Betsee seems like a wonderful woman and if she wants to foot the bill so a nice kid has a chance at a medal, great.

Heard it was around a million. Betsee was unhappy tori did not win eq champion at Devon. I feel terrible for Caitlin Boyle, she has worked very hard to get that far in this sport and doesn’t have the backing that Tori does.

Well it’s just proof that it’s always possible to buy the win.

I always wondered, are Tori and Betsee related? Or does Betsee just buy nice ponies and horses and find good riders to show them, because she enjoys it? I always got the impression that Tori was like Zazou Hoffman. Great rider but not from a big $$$ family/background and relied on catch rides and generous owners for her rides.

You’re right, Tori is the naturally good rider who work hard for all her rides. Not related to Betsee at all  I would sure like to be though lol

and BAC, Clearway is only 9!

What a mean spirited thing to say! The horse is only part of the equation! There have been plenty of horses that won or placed at the top consistantly and never broke the top 10 again once they were sold. Brianne Goutal’s Logan comes to mind.

You can buy a horse that won 20 finals but it won’t get you far if you lack the skill to place at the top at finals.

Who does? That’s like hitting the PowerBall jackpot!

(ETA, not to imply Tori is not a good rider. Of course she is!)

Caitlin Boyle rides beautifully and seems incredibly grateful for her rides so I’m sure there is someone out there with an eq horse that would love to have her show it, especially for finals.

Congratulations to Caitlin and Lillie for campaigning this horse and making him so desirable to catch the eye of one of the most renown owners in the industry.

(ETA, not saying other people mentioned are NOT grateful!! Just noting that Caitlin is too!)

When I saw that Tori was riding him, Caitlin was the first person I thought of! I saw her and Clearway show together at Devon and they complimented each other very nicely! I was really looking forward to seeing them show together as a pair at indoors! Not that I don’t think Tori will do great things with him, but poor Caitlin finds a horse she clicks with her last junior year, wins the Ronnie Mutch Championship at Devon and then has the horse go to another kiddo :frowning:

And Tori does have the skill. So her + Clearway will probably do very well together, and I would not be surprised if that pair wins some big stuff this year.

Clearway is a notoriously good horse. Caitlin and Lillie are great riders, but Clearway brings a lot to the table in terms of being an awesome eq horse.

Sometimes you get a horse that can make up for rider’s mistakes and still win. That’s buying a win, so to speak. Put an average rider (which neither Caitlin nor Lillie nor Tori are - all above average) on an amazing horse and they can make it unbelievably far.

I agree with you, but just for the information of the general public, Logan actually did break the top ten again – with Lillie Keenan, no less: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tBrFeb49z9I

$1 million would be my guess, I doubt Andre would let him go for less than that. If the reason that BP bought Clearway was because she is upset Tori was not eq champion, that is kind of sad. Tori is a great rider, but she is not a pretty rider, not a stylist at all, but she still continues to do well in the eq classes and will be a contender with or without Clearway. And don’t forget that Clearway had another great junior on him when he won all those finals, Lillie Keenan had a lot to do with those wins.

Does Caitlin Boyle ride with Andre? If so, I am sure he will find her another suitable horse. It is too bad, but unfortunately if you don’t have the financial backing, losing the ride is always a possibility.
