Yikes! What happened?
Something arm related, or maybe broken collarbone? I think it happened at the Hamptons?

I believe Chela was retired (or maybe that was another one of AB’s horses?) and Brianne is injured, so isn’t riding at all.
Do you know if Chela was retired? I thought I saw her in the 1.4m at Del Mar back in the spring…

I believe she started stopping…I have a recollection of Spooner riding her in a couple of classes. Maybe she had an injury too.

That is what I thought. When I saw her in the 1.4m classic it didn’t look like the same horse…she pulled like four rails and earlier in the week she had been stopping. She is only 10ish so I hope she is not permanently retired so young.
As expected it looks like Jessica has bought a horse. She posted on instagram today. Good for her, the horse looks like he will be a star in the coming years!

It does seem she got some time off. AB posted a picture a week or something ago of Chela getting a clip, and she is pretty hairy! Hopefully, this means she is coming back.
Congrats to Jessica! She has been having bad luck with some really awesome horses. She is such a great young rider.

Cynar is one of the nicest up and coming 8 year olds out there. This is a big win for the US as he is one to watch for the future.
Chela is not retired she got a staff infection in her back legs unfortunately and is in pasture for now hopefully she will be back soon. I did retire Cadett but that was already a few years back…hope this helps
In response to this if ur referring to Del mar she did not have 4 rails Chela placed 2nd in that classic and I won on ace of hearts but spooner was riding her for me in thermal and she was stopping in the warm up we found out she had an infected tooth that we didn’t know about and believe that’s how she got the staff infection in her back legs…

Ashlee, It’s Staphylococcus, not staff.
Do you happen to know if its a Staph aureus or another Staphylococcus species? Just curious.
Doesn’t Jessica still have Davendy S? I feel like that one could be a contender for her.
Also, am I the only one who thinks this is starting to sound like fantasy football? Sleepers, fighting for positions, injured reserve… I’m ready to start a league! (for anyone concerned, I think I’d draft Kent or Mclain in the first round)
Congrats to Jessica! She has been having bad luck with some really awesome horses. She is such a great young rider.
Well, enough money can buy good horses but she seems to get through a lot of them.
IMHO a ‘great’ rider has the ability to produce horses to the top, year after year. Think Michael Whitaker.

I am so sick and tired of reading snarky comments like this. I am really starting to think that the majority of the posters on this board, like 95% do not even compete or know what it is like to ride at anything other than a backyard schooling show on an OTTB.
Every horse is different. Some get injured jumping at such a high level, some never have a problem their whole life. This is a top rider and her horses receive exquisite care. Nothing she can do about an injury. If she has the funds to buy a new one, then good for her. No reason for such a passive aggressive, condescending post because, quite frankly, it’s none of your business my dear.

I think it’s better to have more horses and use them less than have one horse that gets flown all over the world over and over.
She is a rider, not a trainer per say, and not everyone needs to develop a horse from a lower level. there is no harm in buying a ready- horse.
I’m also supportive of retiring vs pushing a horse to go on with issues.
Don’t judge, especially since you don’t ride as well as her and aren’t in her position financially. you’d bet I’d buy a made horse that is already successful! horse buying is an international endeavor now, so the pool is much larger (?)
I’m also tired of these snotty comments.

Until you can ride as well as Jessie, your opinion has no value whatsoever. I too am tired of this type of criticism, you are just jealous of her wealth.

Only because you quoted me, I will put in my two cents about your comment here…
I think Jessica is a great rider. She is extremely talented. She has great horse flesh. I say if you can afford the best then buy the best. It doesn’t make her any less of a rider.
Any horse is subject to injury. I know a great horse that was going for Nations Cup this year, but she landed wrong off an oxer at a show and is out for a year, at least. They are 80% sure she will come back, but it isn’t guaranteed. IT can happen to anyone, no matter how great of a program you have.
You don’t have to be able to produce horses to be a top rider. You can train with a great trainer and keep them in a full time program. Obviously, she is still winning and doing well.
I don’t ride at that level. Heck, I don’t even do local schooling shows on my OTTB . I can’t speak to how you become to one of those riders, and I honestly think they all do it different. So who are you to judge about what KIND of rider she is or isn’t?
All I know is I’m just excited to see her dad on SNL tomorrow night. Saw him at The Fox theatre in St Louis after Born to Run had just come out. Was a student at William Woods at the time. One of the best concerts ever. Have seen him several other times but this was the best ever. Also saw him at the VA Horse Park when Jessica did young riders (swoon) Carry on - back to regular scheduled programming…

Ditto.
Since it’s the Christmas show, I’d love to see him do Santa Claus Is Coming To Town. Or do his spin on another Christmas classic.
I don’t see how one horse being injured is “burning through them”

While I appreciate the overall sentiment of your post, I find it amusing you are both sick of snarky posts and then insinuate one of my favorite breeds is apparently only good for a backyard schooling show.
