Any suggestions for riding gloves that are not too bulky AND keep your fingers warm?
Ariat Insulated Tek Gloves are by far, the best winter riding gloves I have ever used!
I just picked up a pair of SSG ones that don’t seem too bad!
SSGs or Roeckls!
I wear silk glove liners that I picked up for CHEAP under my summer crochet back gloves. I wear the silk glove liners alone walking to class and running errands.
SSG!!!
I love my SSG lined ranchers. They aren’t too bulky and they are the warmest I’ve found so far. An added plus to the Ranchers is they are durable. When it’s not quite as cold, I use the SSG Mane Event gloves. My only issue with the Mane Events occurs when I take them off and have to put them back on. They are neoprene, so sometimes your hands will sweat and then it’s a pain in the tush to get them back on!!!
Leather palmed cashmere.
Heritage extreme winter gloves are by far my favorites-- they are a little bulky, but you get used to it, and it’s worth it to not have frozen hands!! I’ve had no issues with the sizing as one mentioned in the reviews-- maybe they weren’t used to Heritage gloves as I ordered the size I always do.
Silk lined soft touch by SSG. Almost as thin as non-winter gloves, and super toasty.
I live in South Dakota and this past week the wind chill has been an average of -25 below zero, the only gloves that wear are 100% wool gloves and I put a line underneath as well, I got my wool gloves from army/navy surplus store, they are ugly but I can’t handle cold hands, hope this helps…
I hate bulk and live in vermont. I use the “HotHands” packets with my regular roekles(SP?). I just put one in each palm. I buy the Hot hands by the case through amazon.
I have used the SSG Winter Training gloves for years. I was afraid they would be too bulky, but found that they work well. I use them for barn chores as well, and they stand up to it.
I knew there was a third type of SSG winter gloves I liked. The Winter Training gloves…really don’t know how I could have forgotten that name! They are great cold weather gloves.

I agree.
I’ve never gone wrong with any of the SSG insulated gloves. Some may look bulky but also seem surprisingly easy to ride in. Not sure the name of my favorites…but they’re deerskin insulated ones, one of the Rancher models I think.
A new pair of those were at the top of my shopping list for the Equine Affaire this year, but I couldn’t find any. However…I did find a really nice pair of warm as heck gloves from Carhartt. They’re called:
Women’s Carhartt Insulated Utility Glove/Grain Pigskin - Vintage Rose
Seriously warm and I haven’t had any issues working or riding in them. And they’re 100% waterproof too so I can even stick them under water and not have them soak through.
Been wearing them in the low teens this week outside and actually had to take them off a couple times because my hands were too hot.
FYI The SSG gloves are available at Amazon. No shipping!!!
Those Carharts sound interesting, especially the water proof. Off tp amazon again.
I have the SSG Pro Show Winter gloves and LOVE THEM! Best winter gloves that I’ve found.
I have a couple pairs of insulated SSG …don’t know which kind.
They are nylon, not too bulky, and were not at all expensive…well under $20.
I also use the little hand warmers that you shake to activate the heat.
I put mine on the top of my hand…shove them right down towards my fingers as far as they’ll go.
Mmmmm toasty!
When I’m done riding I’ll often give them to someone else to use.
I love my SSG Winter Trainer gloves! They may be a little more bulk, but they are super soft and comfy. I can’t stand anything that has a velcro wrist closure, as I’m constantly ripping my gloves off and on again.
I like the SSG ranchers as well.
I just bought a pair of the SSG Wind Stopper gloves, and I really like them. They aren’t bulky, and my hands stay warm in windy conditions (the wind always bothers me more than the cold).
I don’t know that they would be super warm in a really cold climate, but they definitely put a stop to the blasted wind.
Good luck!
