For anyone who buys the Carhartt Insulated Waterproof-try 'em on first. They are small. Even the L are small.
The SSG mane event are made out of neoprene and are too warm for anything above 30 but can get cold if you are standing around. The neoprene absorbs and holds body warmth so works best when active.
I also like the Ariat tek gloves and they stay warm active or not.
Roeckl Chester winter riding gloves. They are good for 40 and up weather, under that, my hands are still cold.
My fave winter gloves are the Kyra K winter gloves. A little hard to find, but they are comfy, warm without being too hot and they wear really well. I use them for barn chores as well as riding and they take a ton of abuse.
Kyra K gloves were discontinued last year along with the entire line of clothing. I have two old pairs and one new one that I picked up before they sold out. These are the best that I have found for really cold weather. Very warm, but flexible. I know that some of the Kyra K clothing is being manufactured under another label, but I have not seen these gloves anywhere. If anyone sees them, be sure to let me know!
I got a pair of Rabbit fur lined gloves a few years ago. They worked really well. The price was not too bad. I asked for them as a Christmas gift. You can google them and find several sites that offer them for sale.
I also have used the hot hands placed in the palms of my regular gloves. The tips of my fingers would still get cold on the blustery days. I would advise hot hands and riding mittens.

Heritage extreme winter gloves are by far my favorites-- they are a little bulky, but you get used to it, and itâs worth it to not have frozen hands!! Iâve had no issues with the sizing as one mentioned in the reviews-- maybe they werenât used to Heritage gloves as I ordered the size I always do.
I just got a pair of these for Christmas and I love them! My hands usually freeze and until it hit about 8 degrees in the barn they stayed toasty and even then they werenât frozen- just not warm really. I got the same size I always get in Heritage gloves (the same size I wear in SSGs) and they fit great. I find in general (though I canât speak to this pair yet) that my Heritage gloves have lasted better than comparable SSGs (I am super hard on gloves I think) so I asked for the Heritage winter gloves instead of the SSGs. My sister got the SSGs though so weâll see how they do as well. She did say they stayed pretty warm so far and she found them comfortable, but they fit more loosely than the Heritage.

Silk lined soft touch by SSG. Almost as thin as non-winter gloves, and super toasty.
These. I am in love.
RSL FROM GERMANY ARE SUPER
I have these RSL gloves and they are ultra warm and waterproof⌠The brand is not so well known here but in Germany they are the main competitor to Roeckel and the prices are pretty reasonable.
Yes, I have a different RSL model and it is greatâŚ
I know this is a really old thread, but wanted to ask for more recommendations. My fingers are extremely sensitive and get cold, stiff and very painful easily. I have tried many of the gloves suggested in this thread and then some. Has anyone found anything new thatâs warmer? I havenât tried rabbit-lined gloves and that will be my next try. My biggest thing is trying to find something ridiculously warm, but still flexible to ride with and be able to tack up with. Thank you!
I think that if you live in a very cold climate or you have very cold hands, there are only a few options.
One is hand warmers inserted into the gloves. The second is glove liners, either silk or thin merino wool, or a ceramic-infused (like Back on Track or SSG) glove liner in whatever other gloves you like.
The third is, if your hands are getting cold while youâre grooming, jumping-jacks. Get the heart pumping and blood moving out to the extremities.
But, if you find the unicorn glove, definitely share!
Woof Wear Precision Thermal Gloves and add silk liners.
Ariat gloves used to be my absolute favourites but the quality has gone downhill and they last about 3 months instead of the 12+ months that they used to.
I forgot to mention, I am very allergic to wool! Iâve tried wearing wool socks on top of other socks, and still I get super itchy, so wool, sadly, is out!
I love the Heritage Polarstretch 2.0. They arenât terribly bulky and keep my hands very warm. I have Raynaudâs and my hands can get quite cold. I do ride in an indoor in the winter, so I donât know how effective they would be in really frigid temps. On the other hand, I wouldnât ride a horse in really frigid temps.
Very helpful! I donât live in a cold climate - just very sensitive to cold. Iâll add these to my list to try! I appreciate all suggestions - keep them coming!
Try the Back on Track gloves if your hands are sensitive to cold.
Back on Track gloves are on the list! Thank you!
I got these gloves made for mountain biking (saw an advertisement on facebook). They have a zipper in the back. They are the bomb!! no bulk and your hands donât sweat and then get cold. I put inside of them these glove liners that look like gold mesh, available at sporting goods stores. Low bulk and I was outside (indoor, no heat) for 3 hours riding and doing chores at 15 F and my hands were hot. I was thrilled. I highly recommend⌠warmest my hands have been ever. And before this, it would take about 10 min of riding and usually my pinkies were getting too cold/swollen at this temp⌠My hands are old and have been cold too often to tolerate cold anymoreâŚ
yâall inspired me. Went to Lands End and bought a couple pair of silk liners and a fleecy outer and a gortex outer layer. I have to shop mens because i have big thick workingwoman hands. While thereâŚi found some supima cotton Ts that were on sale and could NOT resist!
