Warm Gloves

The thin Back On Track gloves work really well as liners.

I love the Roeckle fleece lined… begins with a W I think…says Polartec on the pinky… winter training gloves on all but the coldest days. They are non bulky, warm, and provide great feel through the reins. i LOVE these.

On the coldest days, I love my SSG Training gloves. They are bulky but the bulk is to the outside of the finger so that the inside of the fingers can ā€œfeelā€. I used to ride in 20-30 degree weather in an indoor and these gloves helped make the super cold weather rideable. That is saying alot because I have poor circulation to my hands and they are the first things to decline in function if I don’t take care of them.

Are these the right ones? Roeckl Weldon Winter Riding Glove

These are good and extremely comfortable;https://www.costco.com/wells-lamont-men’s-hydrahyde-leather-work-gloves%2C-6-pair.product.100697074.html

Roeckle Warwick. I have a pair of SSG Winter Trainers gloves if the temp gets too cold but I love, love, love, love these gloves. I’m kind of a glove horder and these are one of my favorite gloves! I recently purchased a pair for someone else through Equestrian Collections, much cheaper than many other outlets.

I bought a pair of Correct Connect copper tech compression gloves this summer to help with maintaining rein connection. I’m not so sure they helped, but since winter started they have done a very good job at keeping my hands warm. As a bonus, I don’t have joint pain in my hands. Waiting until the cold drops below 20 to see if they still keep my hands warm and joint pain minimized.

Honestly, the best way to keep fingers warm is to wear mittens - separating the fingers from each other in gloves doesn’t allow fingers to share heat. Don’t put cold gloves or mittens on - do whatever you can to warm them up first (I’ll sit on them in my car with my seat heater on for the 1/2 hour drive to the barn).

I wear gloves for tacking up or mittens and then bare hands for doing the tricky stuff like buckling the throatlatch, etc. Then I grab my riding mittens off the tack room heater and pop them on. If it’s really cold, I’ll slip chemical hand warmers in them as well. I usually end up getting hot wearing the mittens with hand warmers, even in single digits.

My mittens are Devon Aire but I don’t know if they make them anymore. I’ve actually tailored them a bit to get a better fit in the hand part. I’ll pull my pinky fingers out of the slots when we are just walking and sometimes my thumbs.

@J-Lu - I’m in Wisconsin with an indoor but a 2 minute walk across a parking lot to get there. I have ridden in just the mittens down to the single digits and I pop in hand warmers when it’s in the single digits. I can’t wear the mittens much above 20/25F as they make me too warm.

The Devon Aire mittens are fascinating! I love the design! It does look like they are not made any more. I couldn’t find them available. I have tried a number of new things, and have more on order, but have still not found that unicorn!

ETA: Just googled and found a variety of riding mittens! I am ordering some right now!
