Warmblood Stallion Suggestions for a very pretty Percheron Mare

At least the flies are much less worse. I suspect the extreme heat kills the larvae. Way better than the gnats we get at the beginning of the warm season which get into every opening and exacerbate any wound.

Good luck with your Oskar foal.

If you plan to breed again, I would suggest you look at Edelweiss de Bonce for a possible WB cross–SF, former GP dressage horse who is big but not light. I’d think he would cross beautifully with a light Percheron mare. The phenotypes aren’t too terribly off. Most SFs are high percentage TB.

For TBs, Sea Accounts is actually doing dressage these days with good success. He’s full TB and approved RPSI.

How about Foxwind?

I encourage you to consider Foxwind SL. He is a Trakehner with some TB in his background. I have a client this year that bred her Percheron mare to Foxwind with the expectation he will offer refinement. He has lovely Dressage type movement and consistently scores high 60s/low 70s on his tests.

He has produced a couple phenomenal Clyde/Hackney crosses for another client (a little different than a Perch, I know, but she was looking for the same thing, refinement and athleticism)

Photos of mares and foals are (and will be) on our website. Kenya is the Clyde/Hackney who produced foals in 2007 and 2008 and Colleen is the Percheron that is expecting for 2012.

Best of luck with your big beauty.

I vote for El Espiritu. I have been around him at shows and he has a good work ethic and temperment. I believe he will be an FEI horse in the future. I would be fearful of breeding to totally different types. I am sure his owner would be happy to talk to you about this subject.

Over the weekend I spoke with an AWS & Friesian Sport Horse breeder and she mentioned that crossing with a jumper oftentimes helps to improve the canter, because their canters are so strong and correct. Can anyone speak to this?

Just wanted to throw that into the mix for your stallion considerations.

Thank you for the continued feedback but the decision has been made complete with Plans B and C given Oskar’s age.

I do like El Espiritu, but probably not for a cross with a Percheron. I’m not crazy about the winging the Iberians tend to do and am afraid that might get exaggerated in a draft cross, not to mention, some of the Iberian/draft crosses I’ve seen are heavier than my ideal.

Aside from Trakehner and TB, I still very much like the Saddlebred stallion to Percheron mare cross. It is surprisingly nice.

For some great Georgian Grande examples, see Flying W’s Reference pages: http://www.flyingwfarms.com/02%20Competition_Champions.htm

Alot of those are a Friesian/Saddlebred/Draft cross which I’m not as crazy about, and prefer the Saddlebred to Percheron or other draft cross.

Head over to the H/J forum and check out a recent thread on Arab h/j. Someone posted pics of their perch/arab, who appears to be both adorable and a great jumper. Never would have thought of it but now I want one!

They do have many Friesian crosses, but they have had good success with PercheronXSaddlebreds. They no longer breed them because they lost their Saddlebred stallion. I just thought you might enjoy paging through their reference horses

I have and did. Thank you.
