Was Ramiro Z's semen ever frozen?

Does anyone know if he was ever frozen? And if so, where would that frozen be?

Well we just lost a son with the death of Rolando…there are very few sons left. I did a search this summer. I guess I would suggest looking for sons as shortly they will be gone too and chances are you will end up with a son anyway. PatO

Jay’me Stevens owns the Stallion Noteworthy. He is by Ramiro, and his second damsire is also Ramiro. He is a nice boy.

Been there; done that. His chilled (per the vet she uses) sucks. All her pregnancies last year (and maybe this year) have been gotten with frozen semen & DHI. She is reluctant to part with the few doses she has left.

She gave me a good deal on some unproven stuff that was frozen years earlier by a different vet, but it didn’t work.

No, I was asking if Ramiro HIMSELF was ever frozen.

Don’t know the answer but perhaps the people at Holstud in the Netherlands could help. That was his last address.

I found this on a Stallions-online.net :

“As well as his impressive ancestry and sports results, another of G Ramiro Z’s greatest assets was his fertility and semen quality. It was of such a good standard that it was used in the research of artificial insemination and frozen semen to produce the science we know today.”

I bred my mare with fresh semen from Noteworthy and she took first time. She did change vets and I think there has been a vast improvement.
As far as frozen Ramiro, I have looked around and have not found any.

I do not think so.
In Germany there is also available Ramiro Son II as one of the last sons out of a quite famous damline. He doesn’t breed AI but he has a lot of problem mares and some rather interesting sport mares I was told by his owner.
So Leasing a mare in Germany or asking his owner what Mares he had and where one could buy may be an Option to get a Ramiro offspring.

When was this? I talked to Jay’me and her current vet at length both last year (winter of 2013) and this year (2014) and she was very open about his semen (chilled) being not great for shipping.

The vet himself (forgot his name but he’s a board certified therion(never can spell that stupid word)) and highly respected.

He told me point blank that if I DID want to try, I should definitely use counter to counter…not easily done in my area.

All her foals born this year were conceived using frozen that this vet processed and using DHI…this is what Jay’me told me. The problem is not that his semen is bad, it just has a VERY short shelf life.

So his frozen is actually better than his chilled (per vet). However Jay’me has spent a ton of $$ on this stallion and wasn’t really ready to spend more on freezing him again just yet. So she wanted to keep the “good” frozen she had left for her own use.

I really love this stallion and I really appreciated that she was so honest and forthcoming with all this info, as was her vet. Great lady.

And if she ever offers his frozen (the good stuff) at a comparable rate to other stallions of his quality, I might go for it.

I really do love the stallion.

Thanks for this info. However I already have the mare I want to use here in the states. What I want to tap into (close up) is actually not Ramiro so much as Ramzes. Since Ramiro was such an excellent producer & grandson of Ramzes, he came to mind.

I bred in July of this year, but I did haul into the clinic because it is only 2 hours away. They used fresh semen. He is a lovely kind stallion. I met all the offspring and was impressed with their character. I was a bit worried about his temperament given his breeding, but he and the foals were sweet kind and level headed.
There was a vet working with Noteworthy before Dr. Schmidt and they had a lot of issues. Dr. Schmidt is an amazing vet, and seems to have turned things around, so if he says c to c then that is the best option.

I hope you get a chance to bred to him.
If this foal is what I hope for, I have 2 others I’ll breed next year.

Ramiro’s frozen semen was available and there are quite a few US bred conceived and born foals from the frozen semen. If anyone out there has a dose or two in a tank please contact me privately.

Yes it was frozen and good, I bought quite bit about 25 years ago but never had the chance to use it. Loooong weird story.

Any Chance it can be Exported ?

I do not have any here now,
funny thing was that at the time I was doing another shipment together with Willy Arts and Holstud was supposed to go bankrupt so the Dutch government removed the semen from his office and after that the veterinary service would not certify it. Weird

I have a Royal Z II (Ramiro/Alme) daughter who has produced fabulous foals. I’m pretty sure that Carol Austin has Royal Z II frozen semen and it’s really good semen. I bred 3 Royal Z II foals and they all move beautifully and jump the moon.

Thanks!

Actually a COTH member PM’ed me and said that if I was looking for Ramzes I should check out sons/grandsons of Capitol I (a double bred Ramzes) and that Ramiro tended to produce more like Cottage Son than Ramzes.

I already have the mare booked to another stallion for 2015, so I have time to do my research.

I wonder if Condus was ever frozen? Maybe Leonidas? Hmmmm…

maybe a private stash somewhere

I did notice Ramiro listed out of stock on A-1, I think. So quite possibly someone has a dose (or icsi straw) in North America. Quite fancy his son, Randel Z.

Edgar is it still in Holland ?
