I would like a pair for riding in the rain. I want them to be waterproof rather than water resistant. I ride Engish and would wear them over regular riding breeches. Side zips would be a plus. What do you recommend? I greatly appreciate any wisdom that can be shared on the topic. Cost is of some concern but I am willing to pay more for a durable quality product.
How about these : http://www.farmhousetack.com/servlet/the-2374/rain-pants%2C-waterproof-breeches%2C/Detail
or kingsland makes a full length pair.
bump
Ornella Prosperimakes great waterproof gear.

I galloped in them for years
I use these “storm shelter pants” from Kerrits:

Love the full-length side zippers!
But to be honest, I avoid riding in the rain These I wear mostly in ride camp over my breeches so I stay fairly clean.
chaps
I went with waterproof chaps and a long jacket, because the seat of the full waterproof pants seemed too slick on the saddle. Unfortunately, I had to order them from the UK, where they are apparently common and easy to find, while here in the US they aren’t so much. Now I’m trying to remember the brand… they’re hanging out in the trailer…

muddycreek makes single leg chaps w/ full length zippers.
catalog from stateline this week has full length waterproof riding pants for 70 smackeroos.
Thanks all, Has anyone ridden in the mountain horse polar breech? They are in the Smartpak catalog. Pricey but they look pretty nice.

Have read some reviews that since they are unisex they tend to fit slim thru the hips…(which means on me they wouldn’t zip up!!!).
If you step outside the box…
check the golf dept of Dicks Sporting Goods.
and the hunting dept there and Gander Mtn.
the fishing dept has a lot of great gear too. (ice fishing requires waterproof gloves).
Im sure Pro Bass and Cabels will offer choices too.
Ski Pants are waterproof (as well as the rest of the gear)…and often at great prices in Sporting Goods stores. End of season salees brings most of the racetrackers out for next seasons goodies.
I recall one day last winter was so cold I put on a 2nd pr of ski pants and found myself just toasty warm. >>think is reached -20*windchill. Brrrrrr
For your horse.......... horse.com carries a waterproof quartersheet.
I used a pair of goretex ski pants I have last year, worked well, but they are too short.
Kerrits Ride Outsides if you can find them - unfortunately they don’t seem to be in the current collection.

Then you got the wrong size. Dont forget that bibs will ride up, so pants work better.(bibs are so uncomfortable too )
Skigear at Dicks is the popular item at our track and wear well!
End of season usually sell for about $30 too !
I second Bright Sky Farms post, I ride and do barn work in ski pants from November to April. Waterproof, and warm, and washable. They will last quite a while, if you don’t get a hole in them. And if you do, nail polish helps.
Summer, Spring and early fall, I just pull on a pair of waterproof pants from the Hunting section.

My ski pants are the goretex mountain lights by north face. Unfortunately they don’t come in a long. I don’t think I got the wrong size.
Mukluk, I didnt mean to imply anything …
There are sizes that do fit you …our gate crew is quite tall and they all have found fits… ski pants are designed to a specific length so as not to tangle in the ski’s (and having been a skier for a lifetime too…never knew anyone not being able to find the proper fit). Rare complaint actually.
I wear a mens med only because I wear so much underneath
however, Im not wearing fashion/ / Im warm
try sizing again, Im sure you’ll find the fit.
